Taysom Hill Now Listed As A TE On Saints Initial 2024 Depth Chart / How It Could Affect The EQB3 (1 Viewer)

From my understanding the Saints can designate him as a TE since by all reports he hasn't spent time in the QB meetings or I believe taken a snap as a QB during a pre season game.
I am just going off the NFL's definition:

"For the purposes of the Emergency Third Quarterback rule, a bona fide quarterback is defined as a player who wears a jersey number authorized for a quarterback and (a) is an established quarterback (e.g., someone who has customarily played the position in past professional or college seasons); or (b) is a player who takes regular-season snaps only at quarterback during at least three consecutive weeks of practice, including any week the player would be listed as an Emergency Third Quarterback."

Since Taysom wears number 7 and is arguably someone who has "customarily played the position in past professional or college seasons" I cannot assume that him being listed as a TE means that he is no longer considered a bona fide QB. It MIGHT mean that, but I need DA to answer that for us. I don't think the Saints listing him as a TE actually confirms that he no longer qualifies as a bona fide QB, especially since he definitely was a bona fide QB last season apparently.

You are ignoring part B. Since he hasn't been taking QB snaps the last 3 weeks he can be redisignated as a TE.

I would think that the team has likely checked with the NFL to see if Hill would still count as a QB if they changed his designation to TE. There is certainly ambiguity in the phrase "is an established quarterback." They give examples of what could make someone an established QB, but that too isn't really clear since it could mean a guy who played QB in college but never did in the NFL which doesn't seem like it should count. I mean what if a guy was only a QB as a redshirt freshman?

But, one way or another we will find out if they will/can use the emergency QB designation about 90 minutes before kickoff. Underhill has been talking like they can do it and will do it.

Yeah but part B is an or. So if either scenario A or B applies they count as a QB.

By the way, the simple solution would be to change Hill's number to a non-QB number. Although I know he wears #7 for his brother.

You're very likely correct, and they made the change with the NFL's blessing. I expect us to designate an inactive emergency QB3 if so. Good for us!

Which is why I drafted him into my TE1 slot. Kubiak, don't let me down!!
in Yahoo FF, they have him listed as QB/TE.
which i wonder if that makes him the only player with that designation? that is a true Flex player..
