I don't think this is anything but creating cap space in order to have room to operate during the season, and hopefully carry over the rest for next year. The 5-6M they had might not been enough.

$5-6m definitely isn't enough to go into the season. Need roughly $2m when the full 53 counts against the cap, and then another $10m or so during the season for practice squad, practice squad elevations, IR signings, etc.
