The 10 most ridiculous Black Metal videos of all time (2 Viewers)

So what defines "black metal"? Based on the video it's just 2 chords on electric and drums repeated ad nauseum.

Related 80's Doom Schlock....

However I think last year they reunited and I enjoy the new sound... but then they fell apart again..

Black metal is more an idealogy and belief than a style of music, though at its most basic level its more tremelo picked and high pitched than death metal. its "generally' more satanic and pagan and nihilistic, ive often compared black metal to 'winter' is if were to use a metaphor-cold, bleak and barren, though with todays genre mixing, there are black metal bands with non satanic idealogies and varipous levels of ambience, experimentation and other atmospheres (cyber, nature, folk, viking, etc) but so called 'real' black metal fans will be quick to call them false.

This might help

Bergraven
Deathspell Omega

Completely not sarcastic question then,
Would you class "mercyful fate"
as black metal....

And then his later project King Diamond as less so, because they dropped the sdatanic lyrics and went all "spook show" to avoid the harassment and hit a more mainstream crowd that was put off by the "devil..devil...devil.." lyrics??

I ask, as many consider old King to be the father of the genre with Fate but no one really talks about the Diamond stuff..

A lot of people do consider Mercyful Fate/KD along with Bathory and Venom as the first 'black metal bands" but, with Mercyful Fate is was less the music but more the imagery, theatrics and lyrics and also they are widely considered the band that started 'Corpse paint"-a staple of early black metal (and still today for many bands)..

personally, by todays standards i would not consider Mercyful Fate as black metal, though they are partially resposible for it. others may differ in thier opinion

Wow, I thought Emperor and Satyricon were big enough to put out better.
if you think their vedios are bad you should see the bands pictures. esspecially Immortal's

Mercyful Fate is somewhat Black metal, but not King Diamond so much.

I would have to disagree about Black Metal not being a style of music.

this website has a pretty good definition for black metal, not perfect, but better than wikipedia in my opinion. http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/metal/metal-genres-guide-to-newbies-and-the-misguided/t.7739319/

I think it was more the the black metal inner circle -(Emperor, Mayhem, Burzum, etc as it was known) that did the church burnings-still memebers gorgoroth got in trouble recently for having a severed pigs/sheep heads at a show as well as rape and assault allegations -gorgoroth never really got invilved in the church burning scene

Well, Varg Vikernes, of Burzum and Mayhem made a name for himself by wacking fellow Mayhem member Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth. Also he was responsible for burning three churches in Norway. This fine fellow has a parole hearing this April.
