The 25 worst trades in the history of the NFL (4 Viewers)

Did I overlook the Desaun Watson trade? How is that not THE worst trade in NFL history. He barely plays, plays poorly when he does and has a guaranteed contract they can’t get out of.
Agreed. Worst trade ever…and not even close

but letting the Field Mouse aka Sam Mills go in any form or fashion
The Saints tried to re-sign Mills who was a true FA. He turned down a matching offer to follow his NO LB coach (signed to be the DC of the Panthers - Vic Fangio) to Carolina. His choice, not the Saints.

Oh, thanks I obviously forgot what happened. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. It's hell getting old  (n)

What was funny about the Ricky trade was it amounted to nothing for Washington.
Actually it worked out fine for Washington as they moved the picks and ended up drafting Champ Baily (arguably the best player in the whole draft class) as well as getting Lavarrr Arrington in the next draft.

It was the Bears that got the short end of the stick with Cade McNown.

Another one of the picks we traded away was used to draft TE Billy "Timex" Miller. Billy Miller came back to New Orleans in 2006 and played great with Brees to help us rebuild. I always called him "Timex" because he would get absolutely blown up and still keep ticking.

Ricky was a solid player and we had already traded our 2nd round pick for Eddie Kennison. Of the moves we made in 1999 that move was worse as I would have rather had Dre Bly to pair on the defense with Ricky on offense.

And the most lopsided Trade in NFL History is not even listed....

In 1973 the Redskins gave up 5 players to the Houston Oilers for one safety. The 5 players did nothing , the safety on the other hand turned out to be one of the top 5 Greatest Safeties to ever play in the NFL.

It's not like the Redskins werent already skilled at fleecing or luring away supposedly disgruntled former All-Pro players from basement-doormat, lackluster perennial losing franchises. They essentially stole Billy Kilmer from us after the 1970 season after a reported, after-hours brawl between Mecom and Kilmer, who was dating Mecom's secretary that night at the Chart Room bar in the French Quarter. Even with Kilmer, Redskins already had the foundation sort of built by Lombardi in 1969 season that George Allen later expounded and complimented upon in the 1970's with "Over the Hill Gang" although after their 1972 miracle SB run, although making several more post-season runs, their best shot had come and gone by the mid-late 70's.

Not all of us know who you are talking about.

These lists love to spotlight how much the Saints gave up to get Williams but they NEVER mention what the Saints got in return for him from Miami just a few years later. Four picks, including two firsts.

So the net total between the two trades isn’t nearly as bad as these lists make it out to be, IMO.

But that's a different bad trade.

Bone to pick with a few.

RG3 wasn't that bad of a trade. RG3 looked like an earlier version of Jayden Daniels before he got hurt. Shanahan destroyed RG3's career by forcing him to play on a bad leg.

Elway was never going to play for Baltimore.

Randy Moss was never going to be Randy Moss in Oakland.

Brady made Welker good.

Jamie Collins, it was just a 3rd. Not exactly a blockbuster trade.

Wentz to the Colts, it was a 3rd and conditional 2nd, taking a chance in that reuniting him with Frank Reich would pay off...and the conditional 2nd, Colts had to make the playoffs.

"for the second overall pick to take Williams."

That's not where Williams was taken, "Yardbarker."

Garbage article.

I guess it's too far in the past, but the Saints once traded their 1973 first round pick (2nd overall) to the Baltimore Colts for DE Billy Newsome (2 year NFL vet at time of trade) and the Colts 4th round pick. The Colts selected Bert Jones.

The 1990 season Steve Walsh trade didn't turn out too well either. A #1 and #3 in the 1991 draft, and a #2 in 1992 (that became a #1 due to Walsh's performance in 1991 for the Saints). Total cost two #1s and a #3. He started 8 games for us and was released in 1994,
