The selection of best quarterback ever is doubtless a subjective one. A case can be made for a number of great quarterbacks. And then are quarterbacks like Otto Graham, Sid Luckman, Bob Waterfield, and Sammy Baugh whom I never saw play.

I do not personally like the quarterback I am going to name, and he does not have the Super Bowl rings that Tom Brady and Joe Montana have. But the best quarterback I have ever seen is Aaron Rodgers. He has good size and mobility. He certainly now has complete command of his offense. But he has a combination of fast release, velocity, and accuracy that is simply exceptional. The decision might be close to a coin-flip in some instances, but I would take him over Brady, Peyton Manning, Unitas, Elway, Montana, Steve Young, Favre, and Namath.

Most naturally-gifted passer? Perhaps. Best actual QB? No way.

Over Montana? U must B 2 youthful to KNOW just how $ Joe Montana truly was! That was during my heavy betting days and when WE had The Dome Patrol and Bobby Hebert was cooking w/ Eric Martin and a couple of great RBs! They would beat us and in very close games and then Joe would ALWAYS seem to "cover" so I made solid coin betting The 9'ers. Guess I'm partial but Good Teams Bring $s Home !

MamaRoux, unfortunately, I am not as youthful as you suggested. I actually watched Unitas, Starr and Namath. I guess we simply have a different opinion. I saw Montana play countless times on television and too many times in person. He was a great quarterback. But I happen to think Montana is a tad overrated and Steve Young a tad underrated. And Montana played on a team with superb coaching and with superior team on both sides of the ball. I think Rodgers has absolutely carried the Packers for any number of years. And I do not care personally for the guy.

His mechanics are awful at times and result in errant throws, and from my uneducated perspective, it's a laziness/arrogance problem. I get the sense he's not fully dedicated to the game like Drew was said to be, but that's just me.

Talking to my dad before the game last night and talking about our QB situation. He told there are 2 guys he would have loved to see as the Saints QB this year. First and top choice was Teddy, my dad absolutely loved everything about the guy. My dad said he just made you smile and always made you feel he was in control, second he said Rodgers because he is easily the most gifted QB he has ever seen, and my dad can’t stand the guy. Said in SP offense he would destroy records…

Joe Montana was the most terrifying QB I’ve ever seen.

He had such a fluid style and seemed to just effortlessly throw daggers all over the field.

I love that I got to experience the 80s era of guys like Montana, Elway and Marino and the generation guys like Manning, Brady and Brees - but no QB has ever given me more anxiety as a fan than Joe Cool.

Rodgers is very very good but it’s really hard to choose between the others you mentioned.

my timeline with the game is long, so there have been many "best"s

can't remember ever thinking a game was out of reach for the niners with montana at qb

Montana, a side effect of the old NFC West.
Exactly. And whereas Rodgers usually does not come through in the big games that get you to the Super Bowl, Montana played his best ball at the end of the season and playoffs.

If people just want a pure passer that is pretty to watch, I would take Dan Fouts or Marino. Rodgers is a great talent, but he is also a front runner that will always buckle when it really counts because he is more concerned with not being blamed than getting dirty. Him refusing to run for the TD in the NFC championship game last year is a great example of that.
