The Cam Jordan extension (1 Viewer)

I am not at all a cap expert, but from the looks of it, Cam Jordan’s cap hit next year is 23 million and it is 17 million in 2025. Does anyone know if there’s any way we can get out of this without kicking the can down the road further? Cam only registered 19 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss this year, and it’s not like he didn’t play either. He started almost every game.

The lack of pass rush off the edge really killed us this year. Cam was no match for scrambling QBs either as they just seemed to run circles around him. I know Cam is an all time great and he deserves to retire here, but his salary is way too high given what he put out there this season. Was it just a bad season or should we expect more of the same next year? I feel like this has to be dealt with somehow in the offseason.

Any salary cap gurus on here that can explain what our options are when it comes to his salary and cap hit?
Welp, thats a tough one. You can cut him pre or post june 1st the dead cap is brutal!

Can he take less money on a restructured contract? Of course he has no reason to because they cant get rid of him.

Maybe with some time off and healing he can be productive again. He is 35 next year so he cant be done yet, right?

No getting out of it in 2024, he will probably be one of the top restructure candidates next year which will likely create the same problem in 2025.

It makes perfect sense for him to retire after this season. He's put together a potential HOF resume in his career, but I don't think he has much left in the tank. That coupled with the fact that this team is rapidly trending towards a rebuild for the foreseeable future, there's really no reason for him to keep putting his body through an NFL season. It's unfortunate he can't go out on a high note, but lots of really great players never get that opportunity.
He's been putting his body through the same routine for years, so why would he stop now with so much on the table?

I don’t care. I wanted Cam to be a lifelong Saint and it’s worth the money. So rare in this era even for HOF players.
I get the sentiment but that's not how most teams operate.

Because....he's older now than he was before. That's how time works. He's obviously taken a step back physically and doesn't have anything left to prove.

And you're mentioning what's on the table as many here have. That money is also on the table for the team. A team that's in a pretty rough cap situation. He's definitely a cap casualty candidate. Him being released wouldn't be surprising.

Love me some Cam and I have no issue paying him. Dude never missed games and never left even though I'm pretty certain there were bigger checks he could have gotten.

Got people on here complaining about Cam’s money, when this dude has been our iron man since day 1. Kept grinding and stayed positive through all the good and bad. Consummate professional and held the defense down like no other, yet Andrus Peat is being clamored for another extension, for a 6-7 game stretch at LT, after getting Drew killed how many times??? One player earned his money, the other was a heist. Know the difference

What a time to be alive🤣🤣🤣

He would have to agree to restructure, which, based on another poster's calculation, would put us on the hook for 13 mil a year over the next two years. I know people who refuse to retire over 6 figures, so I doubt he tires over 8. He may but I doubt he does.

I don't think people are upset about Cam getting his money. Instead, it's another example of Luck Loo's outdated management style. Most teams make tough choices when players get old, but we don't seem to do that. Cam should have been offered a decent contract with less than 15 mil guaranteed.

Re-read the comments from all of the gameday boards. Many were throwing him to the wolves in a sense. IMHO, that dude could’ve gotten way more money out of us, but he never went with his true market value. He has earned the right to get the rest of this money on his contract.

I haven't seen those but I don't think he could have gotten more. What is his true value at this age considering his age? I'm not mad at him, but I don't think he should be getting elite money at this age.

His market value isn’t high anymore, while his contract number is. He restructured to help us add talent. He’s done that a couple of times to help us out iirc. All he has done was sacrificed for the team. He stays or we will just have to eat that contract. Either way, he’s getting that money

I get it, and I'm not upset with Cam. However, we can't keep doing this kick it down the road, restructuring with our core players. I think this is just another example of bad cap management that happens every year.
