The "come clean" thread, dish out and eat your own crow (2 Viewers)

I'll own up to not liking Allen and Carr. Allen because he hasn't shown anything until Kubiac got here. I'm sure that he was involved in the hire so I give him credit for that. Carr damaged my perception of him when he was yelling at his teammates on the field and sidelines last season. It's all good when they're winning but we all saw how things will go when they don't.

They're doing well. It's fun to watch. There's very little to complain about. I'm hoping for a fun season.
“Allen hasn’t shown anything” is a bit disingenuous. I know tracking defensive performance is hard because the numbers on the field don’t always tell a useful story, but one thing that’s hard to dispute is that he makes second-half adjustments about as well as any defensive-minded head coach in the NFL. The last couple years with Pete it meant giving the offense a chance to come back into the game, and now with KK it means shutting the door on the other team’s comeback efforts.

I still don’t know if this offense can deliver under pressure, because they’ve been so good that they haven’t been under any pressure at all.

The OL improvement has been huge compared to what I expected. I was feeling pretty good about LT but RT has been a good surprise so far.

The dominance of the running game has been a big surprise also, I thought improvement may have been possible but we’re running over opponents at will right now. Dallas was clearly better than Carolina, and we crushed them anyway.

People talk up the scheme, but we’re the only team running it that has scored 50+ points (we’ve scored 91).

This is an awesome start.

It’s also extremely early and teams will adjust. How we handle it will be more important than how we come out of the gate.

Now with that said? All you can judge this team on right now is what they’ve shown. Which is fantastic.

I’ll stay dirty, thanks. :hihi:

Seriously, I did not expect this kind of start to the season.

Hey, I said this was a bottom 5 team in the NFL and the worst offense. Clearly I was wrong. There is no logical explanation for the turnaround other than the fact that Carmichael must be the worst playcaller in NFL history. Happy to be proven wrong so far.

I didn't think this team would average 20 ppg with this OL, QB and weapons. Kamara is clearly not over the hill and Carr has played well. Credit where credit is due. Shaheed is also a poor man's Tyreek Hill so the no. 2 WR is much stronger than I believed.

I'll tell you this, I haven't been a DA or Carr hater, but they've still both done a lot this season to improve their statuses in my eyes.

For DA, it's been keeping players more accountable than in years past. Making decisions in training camp that I believe not only motivate the players in question, but send a message to the entire team that the expectation is that we all do our jobs. The "call outs" to players like Foskey and Miller, the decision to split starting reps from Penning after a bad game to light a fire under him while simultaneously supporting him in every way possible - I am impressed. And then seeing that he made the call that Lattimore needed to sit this week even though Lattimore himself wanted to play; those are the decisions of a coach that's thinking about the post-season in Week 2. I know DA doesn't sound impressive in his press conferences, but I think he's showing leaps of improvement in the areas people have been most critical of.

For Carr, I think we all saw at the end of last season that once he got healthy he was an accurate QB more than capable of running the offense. I had concerns that learning yet ANOTHER new offense would set us back to start the season. Listen to his press conference today. He admitted that in all of the many new offenses he has had to learn over his career that he has had a propensity for starting off slow. He made the choice to literally double his practice habits this off season to give him the reps he felt he needed to run the offense appropriately. That's the behavior of a franchise QB, a leader of men. The man is in his 11th NFL season in what will surely be considered a successful NFL career, but his strive to be excellent for this team and City pushed him to be even better than he has been. That's my quarterback. Take notes, Jake and Spencer.

Have to eat crow on the OL. They did not look great in preseason and set up the worst of my fears. But Dennison has worked wonders with them.
This^ was my biggest concern/criticism. I just couldn’t make myself believe that this group of linemen had it in them to play this consistently well in all phases of the offense. They are opening running lanes AND giving Carr time to make things happen in the passing game.

Stay healthy boys! You guys can make this a very special season! :9:

Involved in the hire???? LOL DA identified the system he wanted, he was the one that did 90% of the interviews. He was smart enough to go for a guy that had called plays before and not a first time playcaller, how's that working for Zac Robinson in ATL? The QB is the coach on the field if any player ever half-arses it on the field he deserves to get yelled at. SMH

no need to come clean, I got them at 100-1 for a few hundred, I was bought in

My two swings and misses have been criticism of the Saints OL and not having enough talent (overall) to truly compete.

The OL is playing well above expectations. Congrats to KK who is putting his people in a position to be successful. Also, hats off to the OL coach who I'm hearing is a great mentor. Seems like he has done a great job with Penning.

As for talent, we obviously have the starting depth to compete. We'll see how it goes if we need to dig deep. Thankfully, we've stayed relatively well so far.

OK, dish up your own. To hell with your "hot takes" that appear to be wrong. Hating Allen and Carr for the sake of holding on, hoping you wil still eventually be proven "right" isn't the right path. Enjoy the season and root for your team!
I have been hard on the tight end position. Moreau showed up this game and provided great blocking. He could be a keeper.

I'm excited as anyone but my worries still remain
1) we aren't dropping 40 on everyone
2) mobile qbs give us fits (we will see how Hurts fairs)
3) Eagles are better at stopping the run.

Do I have faith beyond what I had prior to week 1.

Extremely

Do I understand that NFL matchups come into play and we may not be as dominant against other teams.

Yes.

Right now I'll ride the wave though.

Hard to expect 91 points in the first two games, the most since 2009. The eventual Super Bowl champions scored 93 in the first two games that year (that would be us, of course).
