New Orleans didn't even make this list? WOW! We must be slipping. Baton Rouge scored a B+ at #15. That can't be right.

New Year's Day 1916 was rough for Colorado residents looking for a little hair of the dog. On that Saturday, the state stopped all liquor sales, predating Prohibition by 4 years. Today, Colorado once again leads the nation in its attitude toward alcohol--but now, the mandate seems to be "drink till you drop." In our second ranking of urban inebriation, Aurora comes in 82nd, Colorado Springs finishes 98th, and, once again, Denver is Most Dangerously Drunk.
We looked at annual death rates due to alcoholic liver disease, as well as who's headed there by regularly downing five or more drinks in a sitting (CDC). Next, we factored in drunk-driving arrests (FBI) and the percentage of fatal accidents involving intoxicated motorists (U.S. Department of Transportation). Then, after tallying the MADD report card of state efforts to cut down on excessive drinking, we had our ranking and, for the state of Colorado, an invitation to AA.

That study was in late 2005-early 2006 if I recall (I think I got the actual magazine) and we were left out for obvious reasons (no one to interview)

professionals need not apply

Look at the criteria.

Obviously we are very good drunk drivers and are not prone to diseases associated with alcohol.

New Orleans must still be exempt from "bad press". Too bad they don't realize most residents would consider this a mark of great pride.

Yeah i was about to note that this list considers fops who apparently do not have the good drinking sense to live to drink another day.

Their decision to number the worst as number 100 confuses me. Guess that is why you get the grades as well.

At any rate, I've spent some time in Denver and I have to wonder if the altitude has something to do with this rating. People who were to move there may not realize the effect of altitude on alcohol in their body.

"The presence of alcohol in the blood interferes with the normal use of oxygen by the tissues (histotoxic hypoxia). Because of reduced pressure at high altitudes and the reduced ability of the hemoglobin to absorb oxygen, the effect of alcohol in the blood, during flight at high altitudes, is much more pronounced than at sea level. The effects of one drink are magnified 2 to 3 times over the effects the same drink would have at sea level."

Could that also mean people in New Orleans have an advantage to drinking alcohol because it is below sea level?

When it comes to drunk driving, New Orleans is probably a pretty safe city because most of the best watering holes are mere blocks away, if not right next door to the hotels. Get wasted and stumble to the elevator and somehow wake up in the tub. Or, get a cab. Who in the hell ordered $1000.00 in room service? :covri:

Well, at least I'm still alive to ***** about it.

Not to mention, if you try and go any faster than 25 mph drunk or sober in the city, you'll get derailed by a pothole.

See, now you know why our government leaders don't fix the roads. They just don't have good PR folks that can get the spin out.
