The Drunkest Cities in America (1 Viewer)

Their factors have to be wrong, there's no way New Orleans doesn't make that list. I feel offended.

Same here. Something has to be wrong with this study. I just can't believe they drink more in Denver than we do in New Orleans. If this is accurate then that means Salt Lake City drinks more than New Orleans..Salt Lake City, Utah. Land of the Mormon Church drinks more than New Orleans. I don't think so.

If this study is true then I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'm from Louisiana. Or could it be I'm just reading it wrong. Maybe it's just that we handle our liquor better?..:dunno:

Yay! Richmond made the list. I bet atleast half of that is due to the students here at Virginia Commonwealth University...........except me :hihi:.......no..seriously :covri:.

New Orleans is the Original Sin City, not Las Vegas. If we don't have that, we have nothing. You can't take that away from us!!

How in the name of all that is correct can Baton Rouge be 15th!!???????? I visited there last September on a Saturday when we visited New Orleans & there was nobody about. The place was dead & i think i saw only one bar just before you slope down to the river. No offense to anybody from Baton Rouge but what happened? Where was everybody?
Also it states above something about drinking more than 5 drinks in a regular sitting. I do this most weekends & can sometimes double that on Friday & Saturday nights. Will I live? Anybody else consume more than 5 at a session whether it be out on the Town or in front of the telly?

BR is a great place to party if you happen to be a 19 year old college student-- maybe that's who they polled to get this ranking?? :dunno:

These rankings are not done per capita. Most of those cities have double the population.

Guys this study was done of the biggest 100 cities in the country in late 2005. It has nothing to do with "making the list." New Orleans basically didn't exist in late 2005 so thats why its not on the list.

On a Saturday in September, there may have been an away game. But on Sundays, they just close the town. :hihi: It's the darnedest thing.

It's all those Lubbock transplants. ;)

What's funny is you might be on to something there. Lubbock is a dry city and you have to drive outside of the city limits to get alcohol, and these folks from Lubbock are suddenly able to get their stuff at any corner store. It is still weird for me to go back and not see the beer coolers in stores anywhere. Sheeesh.....

I read a long time ago that per capita population Lubbock has a higher concentration of alcoholism than any other place in Texas. Wonder why......

I'd imagine Austin is on that list based on the UT students alone.

Sounds like you were just in Baton Rouge on a bad day. If I remember correctly you went to Baton Rouge the Saturday after the 9/23 Titans game. If so, LSU and Tulane were playing in the Superdome in New Orleans that weekend. Half the population of Louisiana was in the Superdome that day. That may be why Baton Rouge seemed like a ghost town when you were there.

Baton Rouge is a drinking town for sure. Especially during football season. The next time you visit us you need to go see a LSU game in Tiger Stadium. I am certain your opinion of Baton Rouge will change if you do. You will be completely blown away by all the partying going on outside the stadium. It's a beautiful site to behold. I hope to see you again either in Baton Rouge or in New Orleans next season.
Cheers!!.........:beerchug:!

I will be there again come September & we shall drink again Saintanism, try get that percentage for New Orleans up so it gets on the next report! Yeah LSU were playing Tulane & NOLA was very busy at that time I remember.

Since they base the list on death rates due to alcohol, New Orleans isn't going to chart high on the list because we usually die of heart disease or diabetes before the booze gets us. Or we just murder each other.

Being from New Orleans-- everywhere else seems like a dry county.....
