This. I think, if you really want to, then in some cases you blame parenting for children being overweight but even then healthier food for whatever reason tends to be more expensive than non-healthy food so that's also partially dependent on income levels.

Besides fast food joints with dollar menus, what healthier food cost more. I can buy a whole pound of Bananas for less than one candy bar. Wheat bread cost the same as white. Skim milk cost the same as whole. Chicken is cheaper than beef. I head of lettuce for several salads is under $2. More and more poor people are becoming obese and I believe its from poor choices rather than cost of food.

Fast/junk food is far cheaper per calorie. A banana has like 50-70 calories. An entire head of lettuce is 100 calories if you are lucky. The previously mentioned Totinos pizza is like 700 calories. I would go broke before I got fat off fruits and vegetables.... potatoes excluded
