Achane is the ultimate change-of-pace and third-down back. It's hard to imagine he can be a true lead back in the traditional sense because of his size and strength issues, but he has elite athletic ability, a smart running style and a complete profile as a third-down back. Achane can fit into any run scheme or offense, he just needs to be paired with a bigger back to complement him and take off some of the workload as a runner.

GRADE: 7.6 (Potential Impact Player, Round 2)

OVERALL RANK: 39

On NFL radio this morning they were discussing how deep this year’s RB class was. They were comparing it to 2017 which produced a pretty impressive list of starting RB’s.

Whether we get this guy or someone else, I’m feeling pretty good about finding our next RB in this draft.

Absolutely agree, LSU is still trying to tackle him.

I agree... There are a lot of RBs in this draft that provide value... I just see Achane much the way I did AK coming out of Tenn in 2017... I was banging the table for Kamara in the 2nd round back then (was shocked we got him later)... Just like I am for Achane today... His game is a bit different than AK's... but His speed, quickness, balance, hands, and ability to setup blocks yields similar results... I think he's more than worth a 2nd round pick just for what he'd bring to the team in AK's imminent absence... and his potential as a long term replacement for him - should it be the end of the road for AK soon in NOLA.

I like it, but a change of pace back wasn’t what we missed. We lacked a 1st and 2nd down runner to get hard yards and forced Kamara into that role.

Can find a 3rd down back later in draft. Remember Kamara was a 3rd rounder because of the above skillset

I think we can get that early down runner in FA (Penny, Perine, Jones, Sanders, Foreman, etc.)... When AK is suspended for the first 4-8 games of the season... Our season could be over before it starts... AK is way more than his skillset would have suggested in college, and I think Achane is same type of player... He's going to be a 8 TD guy as a rookie... we need playmakers on offense first and foremost... If you could go back to 2017 and take AK in the 2nd round, would you? I think the same applies here... Achane is more than a 3rd down back... he's a game changer and TD getter... we desperately need that without AK, and we have no idea what the future holds for AK at this point in NOLA... that's where I am with this projection.

Achane seems physically similar to Darren Sproles. Are they comparable in style of play?

EDIT: Just looked at the videos in the OP. Achane's yards-after-contact are pretty ridiculous. And he might be a 'small back', but he will most def throw a lick to pick up extra yards.

Would like him on the team but I wonder if that's too high for a rb when we have other needs. I was thinking more Zach Charbonnet in the 4th round, although they have different skill sets. Charbonnet is a bruiser with good speed who can catch pretty well.

It would be a misuse of draft capital to spend an early 2nd on him imo.
There is way too much depth in this draft class and FA class too.
Bargains will be all over the place.
