The Man that can fill in for AK41 during his looming "vacation" and beyond - DEVON ACHANE RB TEXAS A&M 2nd RD pick 40 overall (2 Viewers)

It would be a misuse of draft capital to spend an early 2nd on him imo.
There is way too much depth in this draft class and FA class too.
Bargains will be all over the place.

Again, my point was... we need a direct replacement for AK for what will likely be at or near half the season... given how much of the offense, and our ability to score and maintain drives flows through AK.... This team will need an offensive playmaker with a similar skillset from day 1... I am looking for a guy that can do that in the draft, and not so much of a bargain to develop... that's my though process here.

There's likely only one RB going in the 1st... The run on guys like Achane will start in the 2nd... Spears is probably going there too. I'd take either... but I think we "need" one... and I don't think either is there at 71.

I wonder if the overall depth of the rb class will push them all (except Bijan) down the board a little this year? And if you're the Saints, can you afford to play that hand of poker.

Yeah, that's the question, and I don't think they can... They have to assume AK is going to miss half the season or more. We have to have a dynamic player out of the backfield that creates mismatches and is a threat to hit the big play...

Achane seems physically similar to Darren Sproles. Are they comparable in style of play?

EDIT: Just looked at the videos in the OP. Achane's yards-after-contact are pretty ridiculous. And he might be a 'small back', but he will most def throw a lick to pick up extra yards.
whats Intriguing is that he could be a super high value pick. He’s only played in 30 games In college. And it says “saw action” so he’s very fresh. He could be drafted in the 2nd round or last until 6th. Remember A&M had a ton of elite talent and didn’t know how to use it. So he doesn’t have a ton of film and isn’t well known. He’d be as known as T. Spears if Spears didnt play in the senior bowl. No one would know of him except Tulane fans. This draft is 10-12 running backs deep. Extremely deep. We can literally draft two first round worthy backs in the 3rd and 4th or later. Watch when draft grades are out, teams that picked up backs late will have the best grades. (I’m not suggesting we wait) it depends. If I were his handlers/agents/publicist, whatever, I’d be making videos for him titled, ”Built like Darren Sproles that runs like Earl Campbell“.

My point in this thread was... I think we HAVE to have a RB with immediate impact in this draft... For me the "fit" points to 4 guys.... Robinson (who fits everyone) - Gibbs - Spears - Achane...

I'd love to have Robinson or Gibbs... but they may both be gone by 29... Spears and Achane are the next 2 guys....

I really like Spears, but I think Achane is the better fit... and I think both Spears and Achane are gone by 71... So I am saying jump on Achane at 40.

FWIW... I'd be completely happy with Spears at 40 if I am wrong about the fit... I think he's that good.

Or best available RB at 115 and 178 depending on who’s still available. We don’t need to draft one at 1 or 2 is my point.

We aren't going to have Kamara most if not all of next season.
Would you draft UT RB Robinson in round 1 if he falls to us?

A future starter for a RB in round 2 isn't bad...
