The MMQB site remembers the 2006 Saints Draft (mod edit) (2 Viewers)

I had forgotten about some of the players we picked up via trade. How could I forget Hollis "Spongebob" Thomas and Faine. What a draft, both picks and players acquired via trade:

Bush
Harper
Faine
Hollis Thomas
Evans
Ninkovich
Strief
Colston

Only major whiffs were Mike Hass and Josh Lay in the 6th.
Wasn't Hollis Thomas #99? I remember thinking when I saw him.....C'mon equipment guy, you can go ahead and fit #100 on that guys jersey. He was one big dude.

Great article......this line from Strief stands out to me:

“It’s funny, because my perception in training camp in 2006 was that none of us were going to last more than a couple of years, really,” Strief says. “We were not very good in that preseason.

"Not very good that preseason" is putting it mildly. They were awful. While I was still optimistic even after watching Dallas pound them in that preseason game in Shreveport, I would have never guessed that a mere 4 months later I would be watching the Saints return the favor while getting a leg up on the #2 spot in the NFC.
40+ points we scored on them in Dallas. That was an impressive showing by Reggie Bush, the guy was so quick back then. I live in dallas, so just like every year I heard them yammering on the radio about how the boys were poised for a big superbowl win. I truly hate the cowboys, just sayin.

That night was Mike Karney's time to shine. I'm sure he has that game's highlights on loop somewhere in his house at all times...
