The MMQB site remembers the 2006 Saints Draft (mod edit) (1 Viewer)

Yeah...i was 19 at the time. Joined this forum a year later at 20. Wasnt a fan of football until that season as I didnt play in HS and never watched it as a kid.

Its rediculous how much knowledge Ive attained just from this forum and wanting to know more.

Crazy

Wow, never realized how similar our saints/football stories were, or age for that matter.

Klemko's article is a good one. You children need to let it go about the bounty thing. King always has been and always will be in the NFL's back pocket. He's just a mouthpiece when it comes to stuff like that, though he did write back then that it was more about the lawsuit than anything else, which was 100% accurate.

That's exactly the problem and it's not OK. As a former journalist, I know very well the rules of that profession and he has repeatedly broken the biggest one over and over. His job is to provide information to the audience without bias so that the audience may make their own judgement. That is literally #1 on the job description and he has broken it so many times I lost count.

Talk to other people who do that job for a living - real people, not the TV personality talking head idiots - and I doubt you can find any who consider his reputation as anywhere but in the toilet.

Too many personal feelings directed at people none of you kno personally

This refusal to "support" someone by reading a good article is right up there with.. "I hope Richard Sherman dies"

I digress.

Not personal.

By clicking on his (and others') stories, you are giving them web hits and advertising dollars - and by doing that you are supporting the NFL's propaganda machine, you're saying it's OK for them to lie and manipulate the public. It's that very dynamic that created Bountygate in the first place, and it's now being exposed in federal court during the Patriots court hearing.

This is how Peter King feels when he hears about his reputation....

This was a great article - I remember thinking we got a steal with Hass --- oh how wrong was I. I don't even remember Lay... 2 players out of that draft weren't any good - the rest are still starting somewhere, which is absolutely amazing.

Colston - yeah I didn't know what to think at first, but I do know that I KILLED Fantasy that year when I saw he was listed as a TE and that he was working his way up in training camp. Quickly jumped on him (in the last round of course) and had an amazing year fantasy wise... hard to believe that was 10 years ago

I had forgotten about some of the players we picked up via trade. How could I forget Hollis "Spongebob" Thomas and Faine. What a draft, both picks and players acquired via trade:

Bush
Harper
Faine
Hollis Thomas
Evans
Ninkovich
Strief
Colston

Only major whiffs were Mike Hass and Josh Lay in the 6th.

Great article......this line from Strief stands out to me:

“It’s funny, because my perception in training camp in 2006 was that none of us were going to last more than a couple of years, really,” Strief says. “We were not very good in that preseason.

"Not very good that preseason" is putting it mildly. They were awful. While I was still optimistic even after watching Dallas pound them in that preseason game in Shreveport, I would have never guessed that a mere 4 months later I would be watching the Saints return the favor while getting a leg up on the #2 spot in the NFC.

I took advantage of the Colston TE loophole too. Almost got me to the championship game despite having David Carr and Rex Grossman for QB's...

Thank you. We know that Peter King is a sycophant. We know he supported the wrong side during the so-called Bounty scandal. But refusing to read an article that wasn't even written by King is just silly. It's doubtfull that depriving the advertisers by not clicking on the link will have much effect.

No support for King here. He deserves all the disdain we can muster.

I won't read anything King writes because he is a propaganda guy for the NFL and I won't support that. I'm going to hurt them in the wallet by not giving sponsors any love!!

Did I tell you that I own 10 saints jerseys, 12 caps, 10 tee-shirts pay $5000 a year for tickets and also have the Sunday ticket.

Petey King sucks! I remember that Draft already, and I don't need King or his substitute to remind me. They can all go to H-E-double hockey sticks.

And I hope Richard Sherman dies.

Don't hold back. Speak your piece.

Mike Hass. I remember thinking he was going to be the steal of the draft. Good thing I'm not a GM or coach.

And I hope Richard Sherman dies.

It has to be from walkers, and Rick Grimes has to be standing nearby, pointing and laughing.

Did that guy beast it up during camp in 2006? I remember very little that he did in preseason, but it seems like he had quite a fanbase for a while, for whatever reason. I remember watching the preseason games, but during that time I didn't get to follow minicamps and training camp reports online much.

Oh yeah, he was an '06 camp beast.... Him and someone else that I can't remember now, also a WR....Many folks, myself included was shocked that Haas and the other one was cut and we kept Quiet Storm. And that. folks, is why I'm not a GM or coach.
