Yeah, the timing of some of these recent late race cautions totally sucks.Great win for the sport's roots - not only because of the Wood Bros but because Berry is an old school guy. His trajectory to Cup, his ability to build and work on his own racecars, etc., all much more like the roots days than now.
I was disappointed with that last caution, I think there was setting up to be five or six cars at the front with a good shot to win (the 99, 21, and 22 trying to make it on their tires with the 1, 24, and 5 coming through the field with 9-lap better tires). I think that would have been really cool.

And mannnn what the hell is going on with wheels coming off all during the race? There were at least 4 or 5 of them yesterday. And that one time when Bell pulled into the 19 stall to get a wheel tightened was crazy.
While it was a penalty, I feel like it should be a 2 lap penalty because other teams can't do that. Not to mention if you're near the front of pit road or a single car team, you don't have that option.
I just think that due to the playing field not being equal for everyone that the penalty should be the same once they leave the pit box and it's not tight. It's a two lap penalty if the tire comes off and I think it should be the same penalty if the car is serviced outside their own pit box. I get that's not the current rule, but it merits looking at this offseason at least. It can't be a 2-lap penalty if it's not in the books. I suppose they will talk about it but there's really only two single-car teams: the 47 and the 51.
The problem with over-penalizing it is that it's a safety issue and you don't want to disincentivize getting it tight. The rule used to be that if you left the stall it was a penalty but Nascar decided that caused teams to just take a chance if they weren't sure because the penalty would end their race (especially if it was late).
The lose lug nut has been a problem for years but at least they use to have 4 other nuts that would hold it on to get to the pit. Just before the “ next gen” cars NASCAR made the teams use issued air guns that constantly broke and lug tight started to be an issue. Now we have the “nex gen” cars with a single nut and it has Ben even worse.
