The problem of White Supremacy - Spinoff from Buffalo Shooting thread (3 Viewers)

I think part of the point is that intent is irrelevant.

Sort of. If I'm out here trying to live a good, moral life and there's no way on Earth for me to predict what will and won't be considered a racist microaggression it becomes frustrating to the point of saying "Eff it"...which is counterproductive.

Yeah, same here in DC. There's only one place I've tried that came close, and it was a NOLA native who got displaced by Katrina. It was good, but insanely expensive. Not really worth it.

There are a couple of Jason's Deli locations and they're ok and reasonably priced, but a little out of the ways so we don't stop there often.

Anything else I've tried has been pretty terrible.

Same here, actually the Copelands on Rockville pike when it was there (like 20-30 years ago) was really good. They used to have a place around Dupont called Lulu's that was pretty good but long gone now....most places I've been too add way too much cayenne or spice....
I haven’t been there in years but I thought this place in Arlington was pretty good

I have a friend who sometimes plays gigs there and he is friends with the owner who is from LA.....it's a bit hit and miss there, some things are good others not so much....IMO, definitely worth trying though Dave....

Yep, I tried the Copelands in Alexandria, VA 20+ years ago, and that was decent enough, but RIP also. Never did try Lulu's.

And yes, they can never get the flavors right. It's either completely bland, or they put way too much of whatever. Others simply aren't Cajun or NOLA/creole food. Some of what passes for jambalaya, good grief.

One thing I do like about Jason's deli is their gumbo is fairly decent and I love their muffaletas. I just wish I could get a good shrimp or oyster poboy or a good crawfish etouffee here.

The muffs are the one thing you can emulate pretty well. There is an italian market here that has awesome bread, they call it crusty NY bread, it's like a light ciabatta but still dense enough for olive oil/salad.....I like to make mine with ham off the bone sliced very thin, salami and/or proscuitto and provolone. I make the olive salad myself with large briny green olives, blanched veggies, good olive oil and oregano.....

Poboys are impossible because.....Nola quality french bread is non existent anywhere else.....believe it or not the closest thing I've found is the Wawa sub bread, a big crunchy but light, not exactly the same of course but makes a decent poboy....

Etouffee is pretty easy to make actually.....

Nice, I'm hungry.

I'll have to try the Wawa once then. There's one not too far from my place.

True, I'm just lazy, and well, sourcing good crawfish, idk. I haven't actually tried to find some good crawfish here.

Used to go to the Copelands in Rockville and Columbia all the time

Their crawfish etoufee was my jam!
