Anyone know the story behind this? Who decided to put that little girl up there to butcher that song and most likely be harassed about it? I'm hoping there's a legit explanation that makes sense.

I would think whoever was tasked to pick the singer at least audition or something before choosing her for the event. Oof. People are mean and aren't gonna let her forget it.

Right....that's more what I'm thinking. In today's world there's a good chance that girl gets harassed to the point of that being a life changing event. Would never do that to my kids.

This reeks of a beauty pageant mom or little league/soccer parent situation. The outfit and how she was coached to "sing" the national anthem in that manner were probably meant to be her break out opportunity, akin to these talent search shows. Sadly, this poor girl will be subjected to a lot of mean and hurtful responses that will stay with her.
