Taysom Hill is Paul Bunyan.
He’s Hercules. He’s an Avenger.
Except the difference with each of those fictional tall tales is that Hill’s legend actually has the science to back it up.
Saints director of sports science Matt Rhea had so much unique data to share about Hill’s exploits that when he started to mention him earlier this summer, he instead asked to schedule a longer block of time at a future date.
That future date wound up being Thursday, one day shy of Hill’s 34th birthday – an age that makes the versatile FB/RB/TE/QB/WR/special teamer even more of a ridiculous marvel.
“From my standpoint as a sport scientist and as a strength and conditioning coach, it's like you look for things that are just so unique that you're never gonna experience in your career, you haven't seen,” Rhea said. “I've worked with some pretty high level teams and athletes and I've never seen anything like this. So I doubt I'm ever gonna see it again.
“And there’s a lot of satisfaction that comes from just seeing a guy work that hard for that long.”

Saints training camp Day 21: Wide receiver battle is heating up

Notes and observations from Day 21 of camp.
ATTENDANCE: DE Payton Turner left Thursday’s practice early with a toe issue. Dennis Allen said it was the same toe he had surgery on last year, “so I think it was more of a flare-up than anything else.” LB D’Marco Jackson also left early with a calf issue, severity unknown.
LT Taliese Fuaga, TE Juwan Johnson and DE Chase Young returned to 11-on-11 drills Thursday. WR Mason Tipton (hamstring) and CB Rico Payton (shoulder) returned to the beginning portion of practice. LB Pete Werner (shoulder) continued to participate in everything but 11-on-11. WR Rashid Shaheed (foot) rode the bike off to the side during practice. OL Nick Saldiveri (calf) watched practice from the side in street clothes.
We did not see CBs Marshon Lattimore (hip flexor) and Kool-Aid McKinstry (knee); TEs Dallin Holker (ankle) and Kevin Rader (unspecified); RB Kendre Miller (hamstring); LBs Isaiah Stalbird (ankle), Jaylan Ford (hamstring) and Monty Rice (unspecified); and DE Trajan Jeffcoat (elbow).
WIDE RECEIVER BATTLE: The battle for spots at wide receiver has really heated up. The top three players appear to be locked, with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed and Cedrick Wilson Jr. all claiming top spots. After that, it’s wide open.
Bub Means continues to get reps with the first-team offense, as does Equanimeous St. Brown. Meanwhile, it looks like A.T. Perry is getting his reps a little lower in the order, but he keeps making plays. Kevin Austin hasn’t made the most of his game opportunities, but he makes a lot of plays and has a lot of talent, so he can’t be completely overlooked. And Stanley Morgan is a good player on special teams. ...
