The tipping thread (1 Viewer)

Take out I usually tip 5-10 bucks, depending on the meal. If I get drinks while I wait, I usually tip a my standard dollar per drink served.

1. Good service for full service dinner - 25% (after tax, including liquor... for all tips)

2. Adequate service for full service dinner - 20%

3. Poor service for full service dinner - 15%, but it keeps decreasing each minute that passes while I am waiting for my check. Waited tables too long to put up with incompetent servers.

4. Service at buffet restaurant - $5

5. Room service waiter, tip included on menu and spot to add more on bill - depends, but a couple bucks

6. Cleaning people at hotel one night stay - $5

7. Cleaning people at hotel five night stay - $20

8. Barber/hairdresser - $5ish

9. Christmas tips for mailmen or anyone else - I never see my mailman

10. Graduation invitation from kid you know well (not really a tip but curious anyway) - never been in this situation

11. Graduation invitation from kid you dont know as well - never been in this one either.

ok

Sit down dinners and pick ups, I double the first number and that's the tip.

I don't eat buffets, so......I'll let you guys handle that one.

Most of the time a couple of bucks, but she has so large amount of customers that will only set in her station that will give up to $5.

She always said that most of the big parties that wanted more service always left less.

Some people will set long after they have finished their meal, and leave next to nothing; which is their right. Thing about this is they are stopping her from getting new people at that table.

And yes she does get stiffed alot.

I hope she gets an extra tip for that :hihi:
Does it cost more for a happy ending?

Good list st dude, and some great responses. As it seems like every food/drink place now has a tip jar at the register, I'm curious about a few others that didn't make st dude's list. How much (if any) do you tip for:

- a cup of coffee at a place like CC's, Starbucks, PJ's, etc.

- carry-out food (where you call in the order and go pick it up yourself).

1. Good service for full service dinner
20%

2. Adequate service for full service dinner
20%

3. Poor service for full service dinner
15-20% - i've worked servie and you pretty much have to take a dump on my table for me not to tip - many things customer scomplain about have little to do with what the server can control

4. Service at buffet restaurant
why would you eat at a buffet?

5. Room service waiter, tip included on menu and spot to add more on bill
why would you order roomservice

6. Cleaning people at hotel one night stay
$1 - but not always

7. Cleaning people at hotel five night stay
i try to leave a $1 a day but they don't collect - what is the protocol to tip?

8. Barber/hairdresser
i shave my head

9. Christmas tips for mailmen or anyone else
i've moved too much to ever have thought to do this

10. Graduation invitation from kid you know well (not really a tip but curious anyway)

Depends on what kind of restaurant you are talking about... but if you mean from any of those curbside to go places, definitely. They make waiters do that work and only pay them $7/hr, when they could be making their regular $20-$40 an hour on the floor.

i know at some curbside to go places they pay them 2.13 an hour
so they really depend on the tips and a lot of people that order to go assume they are hourly and don't tip which is why sometimes it is hard to keep quality to go people

I tip everyone. Having worked in the service industry I know all to well how many ******bags there are out there that don't leave enough. So I always tip. and tip well. You should too...unless you are a ******bag.
