I think he just didn't want 17 ones. I would've have rounded up and just given 18 bucks back with a mix of fives and ones.

ahh I gotcha.

And I agree with Buzd, unless she was doing it to be a richard, apologize for all the singles...

my lovely wife and i had a few drinks and sandwiches last night at the pub. horrendous service (missed items, slow service, way too chatty, filthy water glass) . bill came to $42.40.

handed her $60 and requested change.

i got back 17 ones.

i dont know what or if she was thinking
, but i'm sure the $5 bill i left stumped her even more.

Boy you sure showed her

IIRC from when my kids waited in college, servers have to make their own change out of their aprons. In fact, my daughter was instructed on her first day to bring her own change, and told what types of bills to bring.

While this is true, as someone who still works a bit in the service industry, its poor form to not at least acknowledge it. A simple "sorry bout all the singles" goes a long way. From the other descriptions of the service she provided, she either is new and still green or completely doesn't care.

Oh, agree, JJ. I just think her being green, or "in the weeds" or some other issue going on with her is far more likely than that she was purposefully trying to tick off one of her customers.

Sometimes, amd I'm as guilty of this as anyone else, things that happen are not all about us, they have to do with something going on with the other person. In other words, try not to take it personally. Unless there is more to the story....

I scanned through just a couple of pages of the thread. Have hair cuts been covered? What do you guys normally tip? Curious on women too but I guess the price of the cut has to be factored in.

$20. But I don't get a haircut very often and I use the same stylist every time. In fact I have an appointment Tuesday. Think the last time I got one was in October or November. The wife keeps her compensated every month.
