Things That Make You Feel Old

My recent reminder that fifty isn’t too far away.

Went to a water park in a lake. It was inflatables you had to swim back and forth to. Had to wear a life vest the whole time. Chased my 9 year old all over the place for many hours; mostly propelling myself with my arms. Get back to camp that night and of course my upper body is exhausted, but nothing out of the ordinary. Fast forward to next morning and we are packing up to leave. I go to pick up the ice chest, it couldn’t have weighed more than 40 lbs, and the middle of my backt went into a violent spasm the moment I lifted up. Nothing I have ever experienced before and it wasn’t pleasant. I’m a pretty hardy guy, and this was very humbling. Fortunately it was 100% muscular and I was back to normal in a week or so.

Not digging this aging thing. And I have three kids - 9, 12, and 14 - who will either be my salvation by keeping me active or driving me into the ground.
Trust me. I hear ya. I'm 53. It was college move in weekend for both my kids. They had a bunch of stuff to move in.

Had to stretch before helping.........😳

Are autographs now something old? I just watched #1 ranked women's tennis player Iga Swiatek work her way from left to right on the front spectator row. SHE HAD A SHARPIE MARKER TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS but people kept ignoring that and instead held out their phone requesting Iga to lean in toward them FOR A SELFIE 🤳

Nah , the big markers are first and second kids

Actually around 35 was my first big wall - I still had most of my strength/range, but stamina/recovery was for **** (we all know it’s a softball, swing if you’re bored)
I hit the wall for real at 50. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually everything got much more difficult. It has not become any easier in the ensuing 13 years, but 50 was falling off a cliff.

For me, aging isnt abiut hurting all the time, though I certainly do

its the amount of things I have to put in and on my body before bed.. salves, ointments, pads, pills. takes forever
