Well, no Saints fan could possibly say this after the past few seasons, but, just look at the safeties remaining.

Baltimore - Ed Reed
Pittsburgh - Troy P.
Philly - Dawkins
Cards - Adrian Wilson (highly underrated)

This position has turned into a key position with the still current evolution of the passing game and rules that impede CB's.

I'd rather have a better D line than secondary. Not saying it isn't important but look how the Giants won it last year.

Giants actually had a pretty good secondary too.

James Butler? Gibril Wilson? Aaron Ross and Sam Madison? Not exactly names that strike fear into opponents.

Pressure from the line is still the key. Its been said over and over if you get no pressure it doesn't matter who you have back there.

Pretty much. Quickest way to improve the D is to improve the pass rush. Not saying that improving from the secondary on forward wouldn't work, but that's not typically done in the NFL. Moreover I don't know many great defenses that built from the secondary.

Good Safeties are what you need on your D.

Ed Reed made Ben's life a living hell in that game. He was forced constantly to take either a sack or throw the ball away due to great coverage.

Safeties are 1 of the most important positions for the D.
