Alright y'all, I said we would lose to the Colts in a close one, but we beat em in a close one. So now I'm eating my crow and it taste great! I'm gonna be honest, after the Dallas and Philly games I was really down on this team. I thought we were a bottom five team in the league. Last week, I predicted us to beat the Falcons because it was at night and at home against our biggest rival and we usually play great in those kind of situations. Even when I was predicting the win against Atlanta, I told everyone we would revert back to the same team we were the first 5 weeks of the season and start losing again. I was wrong. We went into Indianapolis and beat the Colts in their house. That fourth quarter was shaky, but our guys got the job done. After being a glass half empty guy all year, I'm finally starting to believe this team can get a wildcard spot and make the playoffs.

I'll tell you the reasons why:
1. This young defense is improving each week and I think by the end of the year, they could be a top 10-15 defense. Cam Jordan has come to life and been a complete MONSTER the last few weeks. Kikaha and Anthony continue to make huge strides week to week, and I think they're both gonna be stars in this league, sooner than later. The comeback of Ellerbe has been huge. Words can't describe what his comeback has done for our defense. This guy, when healthy, is a freak and the perfect veteran LB to compliment our two future star LBs, Anthony and Kikaha. Breaux has been as good, if not better, of a FA acquisition as Keenan Lewis was when we brought him in. When Lewis is back and 100% healthy, I think we will have the best starting corner duo in the league. With Swann in the nickel and Browner able to cover TEs, I think we have an outstanding secondary. Which brings me to Byrd. People are complaining because they haven't heard his name called much since he's been back, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He hasn't caused any turnovers yet, but you best believe that opposing QBs know he's back there playing center field for us and they are hesitant to try anything deep in his direction. With Byrd's comeback, Vaccaro is able to do what he does best, and that's roam all over the field. Up in the box, helping out on double teams, etc. Vaccaro has looked great the last few weeks and I think it's because with Byrd and Ellerbe back, Kenny V can play with a lot more freedom. That is where he is most dangerous. Davison is also continuing to improve as a NT, and getting more pressure from that spot is a bonus. I wouldn't be suprised to see him take over the starting spot at NT soon, or stleast split the snaps with Jenkins more evenly. If we could just add a stud 3-tech DT to replace Williams next year, I think we could have a top 5 defense next year. Seriously.

2. Offensively, I think every week we are finding out more and more, what exactly our identity is. Spiller was more involved this week, which is a good thing. The more he becomes involved in the offense, the more I think that opens up the playbook. Ingram had a huge game, and I expect that to continue. If the running game can continue to operate at a high level, that helps out Drew and the passing game immensely. As long as we can protect Drew and open a few holes in the running game, I expect our offense to stay in the top 10.

3. The biggest thing that gives me hopes of getting a wildcard spot from here, is the remaining schedule. It's ridiculously easy. Here's our remaining schedule, for those of you who don't know it:
Home vs GIANTS(4-3)
Home vs TITANS(1-5)
@ REDSKINS(3-4)
BYE WEEK
@ TEXANS(2-5)
Home vs PANTHERS(6-0)
@ BUCCANEERS(2-4)
Home vs LIONS(1-6)
Home vs JAGUARS(2-5)
@ FALCONS(6-1)

There's only three teams on the remaining schedule who currently have a winning record, and we face two of them at home. The only two games there that worry me are the rivalry games against Carolina and Atlanta. Even if we lost those two, and won the rest, that puts us at 10-6. Honestly, I see us beating Carolina at home though. They're coming into our house and we are gonna want that one bad since they embarrassed us at home last year. Plus, we ALMOST beat them at their house this year with Luke starting QB. Add Drew, Ellerbe, Byrd and hopefully Keenan to the mix, and I see us winning against them, the next time around. I could see three teams from the NFC South making the playoffs this year, being Carolina, Atlanta and us. Which would be funny, since last year, we were considered the worst division in the league. I've gone from thinking this season was a rebuilding year, that was over before it started, to believing we can make the playoffs. All you gotta do is get in, from there anything can happen. Example: The Giants in 2011. With Drew at the helm, I think anything is possible. Keep the faith, Saints fans. Who Dat!

TL/DR: Our defense is improving drastically each week and our remaining schedule is extremely favorable. We can make the playoffs as a wildcard.

It wouldn't have been a close one had Breaux not fallen down on the 2 TD passes to Hilton. Other than that, good analysis. The Giants will be a good test this coming week. They're nothing special but they are a little better than the Colts.

If we keep improving each week on offense and defense, stay focused and get everybody healthy. I believe we could win out the rest of the season.

I agree 100%.

About our ever-improving defense: While watching one of the ESPN NFL shows today, one of the Colts players (sorry...don't remember who it was) said the Saints defense was the best D that they faced this year.

Now I didn't do any research on who the Colts have played this year, but it was cool to hear his comment. For that first half, Luck looked lost, man! He was going back to the sidelines looking like he was just turned down on a marriage proposal! The TV commentators made this point a few times (not the proposal thing...just the lost look on Luck's face).

Also...I remember that it was said on TV that the Colts brought in a different center in the second half. Did this guy make that much of a difference? We didn't seem to get near as much pressure on Luck in the second half. Or is my memory failing me?

Wow. That's saying something, considering the defenses they've faced before us, this year. Buffalo, NY Jets, Tennessee, Jacksonville, Houston and New England. Saying our defense is better than the Bills, Jets and Texans is pretty high praise.

Thanks for doing the research, WhoDatHank. Please excuse my laziness.

And the Titans defense is much improved this year, also. As a matter of fact, two out of three men on the Pro Football Weekly program picked the Titans to win against the Falcons, noting their tough D. And of course, the game was at Tennessee.

As I am sure you are aware, the Texans D is not too good this year. They were blown out yesterday against the Dolphins.

Move over and give me some!

Seriously though, look at our remaining schedule and after the improvement I've seen in the last two weeks, if we can just get past the giants, I see us finishing 10-6.

Noooow.....look at the panthers. Undefeated team, best in the nfl and all that bs.

Look at their remaining schedule, they could very, VERY, easily lose most of those games.

The mid point of the season isn't even hear yet, we still have a lot of football left to play, and kudos to those keeping the faith.

Also, I think the falcons are pretenders, the remainder of their schedule looks rough.
SF are who they are, but they have to travel to san fran after playing a hard division game.

I like our chances, BEAT THE GIANTS!

I said before the Atlanta game, I was feeling a win. It was at home, at night and against our biggest rival. We very rarely lose those kind of games. But I also said that even if we beat the breaks off the undefeated Falcons, I expect us to go back to the team we'd seen prior to the Atlanta game, and lose again the following week. This team is young and doesn't have the guards to open lanes in the running game or enough weapons in the passing game. It also has a young, inexperienced defense with a few holes up front and a lot of crucial injuries in the secondary. We've played one good game this year and that was last Thursday. Prior to that game, we looked like a bottom five team. If we hadn't had those lucky breaks go our way, who knows what would've happened. I hope that we see the same team show up this week, that we saw last week, but I don't think it's likely. I kind of think it's like the Packers game last year. We were a below-average team, that beat a red-hot Packers team, only to go back to losing after. I expect the same, but hope I'm wrong. We're on the road, against a team with a lot to prove. Andrew Luck looked like himself, for the first time last week and I expect that to continue, especially with Keenan and Swann being out. We need Breaux to have another monster game, to even make it a close one.

Hope I'm wrong. I like my crow fried, with a bottle of Crystal.

I appreciate and respect you coming back and not just eating some crow, but starting a thread about it. The reservations you had, you stated them which for me made it more credible. It wasn't the typical oh were going lose because we suck routine. The reasons that you stated is what many fans believed and can't shake, and that is this team was like last year's team and I can assure you it is not. I started a thread last week asking "What team people thought would show up in Indy and made my case about why the team would win and I stated in one of my posts that many would feel a lot differently about this team after that game. I believed that because this team has twice as much heart as that debacle last year and 3 times the fight. We are in for a wild ride this season. Who Dat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I will wait for left overs! The biggest difference these two weeks is our DL is getting pressure and our OL is holding up more. Its like the old cliche, it is won at the trenches. I like our OL against the Giants and I like our DL against their OL, so should be interesting to see this one develop. Looking better every week!

Oh great, the chorus of "win out" beginning already?

Enjoy some wins but don't set unrealistic expectations. Remember the mediocre starts in 07 and 08 when people predicted winning out?

Cmon, man!

"Believing" we "could" is hardly setting expectations.

I'll join in on the crow feast. Can't afford a let down vs. Giants, a team that we have owned the past few years.

I am enjoying a healthy serving myself for my previous opinion of it being time to move on from Sean Payton. I was wrong, and I am happy I was wrong.
