This Is The Result Of Changing Expectations (1 Viewer)

This is new territory for a good chunk of our fanbase. Think about it. A good number of them have known nothing but the Sean Payton/Drew Brees era. My oldest son is one of them. He is 23 years old now. His first game was in 2006. All along, I told him to appreciate and cherish what we had because that kind of success doesn't last forever. I showed him videos of the Ditka days with 2 Billy Joes/Wuerffel/Shuler. I showed him the end of the Mora era and of the Mecom years. When there was talk from fans wanting Brees to retire/move on, I said those fans were nuts. We needed to hold on to him as long as possible because odds were that whoever came next would be a significant drop off. The Montana to Young succession is rare. The Favre to Rodgers succession is rare. Ask Miami how long they waited to get a good QB after Marino retired or Denver waiting after Elway or the Bills to replace Jim Kelly. A lot of this fanbase thinks it's easy to go out and get a franchise QB. It's not.

The most likely way to get one is in the draft. And the draft is a crapshoot. For every Peyton Manning, there is a Ryan Leaf. Who will be the Manning in the 2024 draft? Who will be the Leaf? No one knows. Teams can just make what they think are informed guesses and hope to get lucky.

With all that said, I do think it's time for a change at head coach. Allen has shown enough to prove he is not the answer. There is zero excuse for us to be 5-7 with the roster that we have. And it's not because he is defensive oriented. Look at the incredible job Demeco Ryans is doing in Houston. I'd love to have someone like Demeco as head coach. Granted he has CJ Stroud but even taking that into account, no one expected them to be 7-5 at this point in his first season. It's also been proven that Carmichael just rode the coattails of Payton(and what worries me about hiring Eric Bienemy) which explains a lot why he was never seriously considered for any head coaching openings. Let's get a new head coach(offensive or defensive minded, it doesn't matter) in here with some fresh thinking and see what a new staff can do with Carr and the team.

I could go on and on but I've go on to much as it is. Bottom line is this team need some fresh ideas and new ways of looking at things. Time to move on from Allen and this staff.
