Throwback - Saints vs Dolphins 2009 (2 Viewers)

That 2009 offense had it all didn’t it.

3 tailbacks and a full back that could all run and catch. How do you possibly scheme for that alone? Never mind the two home run hitters in Henderson and Meachem, a slot receiver with great hands in Moore, the ever reliable Colston on the outside and a tank of a tight end in Shockey.

Don’t forget Brees in his prime. (Forgot how bad the o-line played at the beginning of this game). Look at that zip, look how fast the ball got to his deep recievers.
That’s what we were missing against the Vikings. Anyone can cover 20 yards if they have a fast enough pass rush.

just watched it. forgot how awesome roby was on returns. PT was just a monster.

2 INTs for brees, 1 fumble but recovered by saints.

missed FG.

reggie running sideways on a punt, then trips when he takes the handoff. colstons td called back to the 1/2 yard line cause it was short, all for us to see brees infamous QB sneak

EVERYTHING went wrong that game in the first half.

we desperately miss a shockey on offense.

This is one of my favorite games from that season. I remember my cousin and I (along with a few other Who Dats), went to a local Hooters to watch the game. While we were forced to watch the game in a corner (we were in Cowboys country), there were two other Dolphin fans there. We were all depressed that first half, but slowly started coming back to life in the second half. By the time the game was over, those Dolphin fans were pissed, lol. Before we left, I told them man we feel your pain.

Man, this was peak Saints. It had it all:

- Reggie running backwards
- Then scoring by leaping from the 6 yard line
- Colston scoring with absolutely no fanfare or celebration. I miss him.
- Vilma singlehandedly shutting down a 3rd and 1 run.
- Payton's duck face
- Brees playing hero ball in the first half with two dumb turnovers directly related to him refusing to take a sack or throw the ball away
- Then Brees balling out in the second half to make up for it and get the W
- PT and Devery Henderson

That was great to watch again. One of the best saints games.

Anyone notice how nice it was to watch defenders defend receivers and no pass interference bs? I miss that football.

I saw some highlights and was waiting for a flag. 2019. it wouldve been.

I think the game against Washington in 2017 was better. Down 18 points in the 4th quarter, coming back to tie it then win it in OT

I call the Miami game the "airport" game. The fans descended on the airport that night to greet the team. Back to the game. The OL was really struggling. Brees was getting hit, sacked, and turning the ball over. That game had everything!

This game made remember some things I had forgot.
1. Ted Ginn Jr. was on that team at that time.
2. Tracy Porter had a pick 6 in THAT game too.
3. Drew was an INT machine that day, but I believe that was and is the only multiple rushing TD game of his career.
4. It seems like that image of Darren Sharper running down the far sideline from right to left to score a TD in the left endzone is deja vu all over again, I mean, he did it against Miami, Jets, Philly....
5. Man, that double reverse with Bush long jumping from the 6, THE FREAKING 6!, to score.....just wow.

The one thing that I forgot about that game was how NOBODY blocked for Drew that game he was under constant duress. He made Miami pay when he did have time to throw the ball though.

One of my all time faves too. What a comeback. I don't think we've seen one like it since (for the Saints at least).
I don't know, I think the redskins comeback in 2017 may beat it. With the Dolphins it was a 21 deficit and the the comeback began in the 2nd qtr with 3 seconds left to make it 14. When it was 21 in the late 2nd the Saints win probability was only 6.1% and after we pulled to within 14 with :02 left in the 1st half, the win probability improved to 13% and only got better from then on. By the time their was only 6:00 left in the game, we were up 37-34 with a 80.3% win probability and again, it continued to improve as we expanded our lead.

With the Redskins game, when the Redskins scored with 5:58 left in the game to take a 14 pt lead, the Saints win prob. was 0.4% Even when we pulled to within 7 with 2:53 left, our win prob. was still only 3.8%, so even though it was 14 points instead of 21, the comeback didn't start until it was desperation time, I give the nod the the 17 Redskins comeback.

* the 2009 Redskins comeback a few weeks later in 09 ranks up there too but just behind these 2 with 3 10-point comebacks, the last of which was with about 8 minutes remaining.

That's an absolutely reasonable take. I guess I have more fond memories of the 2009 Miami comeback because of the way that season ended.
