Tiktok stuff (33 Viewers)

It seems like anytime there's an inquiry into something the senators and congreesmen are the dumbest people in the room

Or it’s all an act and these “TikTok is communist!” are just actually acting on behalf of Meta - because they accept lobby funds and/or have large investments in the company.

No, they're just that stupid.

In my younger years I worked as a reporter for several years. Covered a lot of local and state level politicians and crossed paths with then Senator David Vitter and various Congressmen via conference calls, campaign rallies, phone interviews, etc.

These are shockingly stupid people. They are not smart. I don't care what colleges they went to. I don't care if they have law degrees. Most of them are connected in some way and that gets them where they need to be, but beyond that they're forking dumb and completely out of touch with the real world. I once asked John Fleming (then Congressman, now Louisiana State Treasurer) a fairly basic question about Congressional gridlock and the response I got was such a rambling bit of nonsense (he talked for five minutes, stumbling over his words and saying nothing, and then ended the whole thing with some bizarre tangent about how the EPA was going to make it "illegal to fish". Spoiler Alert: 15 years later and you can still fish.) that my editor told me not to use it because, and I quote, "This quote really makes him look stupid." This dude was a DOCTOR before becoming a politician. Every time I ever spoke to him I was just blown away by how dumb he came across. Maybe he was just pretending to be. But since you are what you pretend to be, it all comes out in the wash.

This is actually when I started to become completely disillusioned with the basic concept of government. Dealing with these people was such a man behind the curtain experience that I've never been able to look at government the same way. The news industry either, but that's a rant for another day. There's a reason I bailed on it.

To quote Hanlon's Razor, "never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." But I would add that plenty of them are malfeasant, too. They're just stupid first, malfeasant second.

My girls are pacing the house lol. My oldest was more a TikToker than youngest ( InstaReels)

So this is like Y2K only worse??

It's like an intervention for a crack user.

My oldest said watch how many people have dopamine withdrawals from this (if the ban last longer than several days).

They will ultimately find something to replace but it won't be the same. Because it's not TikTok.

And "influncers" that live on TikTok just had a revenue stream eliminated.
