Today's kicker tryouts: Forbath and Bullock (1 Viewer)

A kicker has to be able to miss a kick and not worry about getting cut. I know the kick was only 30 yards, but the guy nailed a 51 yarder perfect.... I think Zach will be fine. The greatest kickers miss kicks.

I agree. But you can't let that become a habit (Hartley). Learn from the mistake and move on, but more importantly, get better.

It's easy for some to say it was only 30 yards when we won the game in OT. How many would be just as forgiving had we lost in OT. just sayin.

I'm no head coach but I think this is a bad idea. He's a young kicker who nailed a long 50+ yarder and missed a short one. Give him time to develop confidence and consistency, there could be great potential here. Playing these mind games probably is not going to do any good. Sometimes I think coach's hard nose tough guy approach may need a lil' balancing.

I would have been upset no doubt. but the fact remains that you have to let a kicker battle and grow. This miss one kick and bring 20 kickers in thing has to stop.

Trying out kickers after the guy missed a single field goal off the upright makes this team seems more a complete dysfunctional disaster than I thought. This roster is littered with guys who have done far more damage than Hocker has. Signing Brandon Browners release papers should be priority #1.

JUST KEEP HOCKER. Let the kid grow. Damn.

I think this is more of a way to motivate him to not be complacent in his role as the starter. He has made a couple rookie mistakes - nothing huge or disastrous - but he could use some competition to motivate him to be his best and give him more experience in a high pressure situation.

One thing that people can't stand it is the dreaded "rookie mistakes". Nevermind the veteran stench from Proven Veterans that has permeated our home games over the past year. but those rookie mistakes.....

ROOKIE MISTAKES!!!!

Don't understand why a kicker, especially a rookie, doesn't get the same benefit of doubt any other player would get. Other rookies, especially on defense, have cost us points, extended opponents drives with stupid penalties, etc., and the excuse is he's a rookie, let him grow and develop. I think this should apply for our rookie kicker also. He has shown he has a strong leg with his kickoffs and long FGs. If he goes on to show he can't handle under pressure, THEN being in others, but not because he missed one FG by six inches.

hopefully this is just to light a fire under Hocker

C'mon man, the kid doesn't need a fire lit under him. Quite the opposite, really.

He just needs to not have Payton hovering over him and threatening his job every day.

Really,,, I think these tryouts are in case Hocker should get injured, not to replace him or "light a fire under him".
