Transgender MMA Fighter's License Under Review (1 Viewer)

Since she's had sex reassignment surgery her testoserone levels will be just as low or lower than any natal woman. This also means that her muscles and her ability to gain muscle are no different either. One of the biggest changes with hormone replacement therapy is muscle loss. Another is bone density, which is often less than that of natal women. She may be at a disadvantage there.

Since she was fully grown before she began HRT and transitioned she no doubt has male skeletal structure though. I don't know if this matters or can be seen as an advantage in MMA though, I know nothing about the sport.

If you're talking about me, I posted and then decided I was gonna sit this one out. It's got nothing to do with facts.

It's not a she, DNA says its a man. When it comes to fighting " he/she" will have an advantage ala German Swimmers in the 50's. They have to ban him from fighting period.

"I am confused is this a magic show" lmao

Guys, this is a topic that is going to be difficult to discuss within the confines of the posting guidelines. There is a huge potential for jokes, and for denouncements of lifestyles that differ from your own. If we could try to maintain some level of common human decency towards the person in question, and toward each other and the very differing opinions I’m sure exist, this will go smoothly. Jokes, opinions, and debate that follow that simple factor will always be much more constructive than the alternative.

I dunno man, I think if you ever actually met and talked to a transgender person you would see that there's more to someones identity than DNA or chromosomes or whatever.

That's what I thought. Something similar came up a few years with an endurance athlete, I don't remember which sport. I think the end consensus was that if anything she was at a disadvantage.

The only thing I can see that may be an advantage is that she most likely has a larger bone structure than most females. I don't even know if it makes a difference. Then again, people come in all shapes and sizes anyways.

what if she simple stopped taking the hormones prior to a fight?

Then she's be in big trouble because her body wouldn't be producing any sex hormones which are kind of a big deal for your general health. She doesn't have the means to produce testosterone anymore.

doesnt matter cris cyborg santos has been fighting women for awhile and i dont care what anybody says she is a dude!!!

I came in here to make a similar joke.

Also, there's weight classes in MMA, so the trans fighter is still fighting women at the same weight.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, nor do I think would any of her opponents.

I just don't like the idea of a man being born a man, then wanting to fight women. I dont care about the hormone levels being the same, it just seems wrong to me.

Ultimately, it's up to her opponent. If she thinks it's unfair, then... no fight. Other than that, who's opinion really matters?

Musculoskeletal differences between male and female bodies are more than just hormonal and ephemeral; they are quite literally bone-deep. If someone digs me up two thousand years from now, they won't be able to tell if I took hormones or how I felt about my gender or much of anything else about me, but they will be able to tell that I was biologically a woman from nothing but my bones.

As to whether those differences confer an advantage, I guess that depends on whether longer arms, more massive bone structure and greater upper body strength count as advantages. I would contend they do. If she'd been taking hormones since she hit puberty, then no, she wouldn't have developed those advantages, but her current course of hormones has not undone the development that happened at puberty.

Men wipe the floor with women in sporting events. Even though she doesn't identify as a man and is not a man in any other sense, she retains the physical advantages of the sex she was during puberty when her muscles and bones put on all that extra mass and grew in different ways. It sucks for her, but I don't think she can compete fairly against XX women or against men at this point.

I believe in giving everyone the same rights in just about every regard. But with sports I don't really see it in the same light. The whole idea in sports is to create atmosphere of equal opportunity. If you have to go to great links to prove that she is not at an advantage, then I don't know that everyone will ever feel that way conclusively. I am not even a fan of the sport but if I was, I would want to know conclusively that all participants start equal.

What if she is allowed to continue and goes out and absolutely dominates. Who is going to be convinced that some advantage did not slip by? And then it would be hard to consider it a sport at all.

Its not a she. Its a he that wants to be seen as a she.
