Trevor Penning is PFF’s top graded Saint; Penning is highest graded NFL OT in Week 10 (2 Viewers)

This team has needs everywhere whether it be a need to upgrade to starters or depth. They should go BPA and it will inevitably fill a need.

Even at OT, if a stud LT is there that you think is better than Fuaga, you can draft that LT and let him battle it out with Fuaga. The winners starts and LT and the loser starts at LG.
look, its a pretty thought to type out but we aren't drafting another OT in the first round this year. The End.

any mock draft with saints drafting a tackle early can be thrown in the trash. heck, a LG is not worth the value and we have too much invested in the OL already. We need to be creative at LG and patrick is fine if healthy.

DL (edge and interior), WR, CB, and TE are all much higher needs.
We have Fuaga, Ruiz, McCoy and Penning, we will probably draft a guard in the draft and sign one in free agency because not only should we be looking for a starter but we need to strengthen our depth behind them.

I agree, and edge rusher (not a 6'6 280lb one either) is needed and I hope whatever coach we hire brings a new vision to the defense where we can get more athletes on the edge and not just have lumbering guys wrestling with offensive lineman like two bears in the wilderness, we need guys with bend.

Sorry, I didn't know Loomis had been so adamant about this.

Seriously, I do doubt that they draft a OT in the first, but they could take one in the 2nd if the right guy is there. But I don't think you can rule out any position on a team like the Saints that needs help at every position including OT. We are one injury away from having Udoh starting at LT or RT and nobody wants to see that. And if you draft a guy that is an upgrade at LT then you solve the LG position by moving Fuaga or you put that guy at LG.

I have this nearly irrational desire for this team to become more of a hybrid 3-4 team. I think it would allow you to better use the smaller edge players that come out of college and allow you to get more speed on the field to stop QBs that can run. It also allows you to get some MLBs that are good value because they fall down the board because they might not be suited to play as the only MIKE in a 4-3.

And I think those 6' 6" 275 to 285 Lbs. DE's with the athletic ability and brains to play in the NFL just seem too hard to find and seems to lead to reaching for potential in order to fill the size requirement. They also often seem to get easily injured.

Joe Woods is scheme flexible, but he has ran a 3-4 before. I'm pretty sure I made a thread/post after the hire wondering if we'd switch to a 3-4.

I am glad to see Penning improve every week, the right side must be his more natural position. Wasn't he projected more of a RT coming out?

He played mostly LT in college, but that's the issue with these small schools. They always put their best OL at LT even if their best/natural position might be RT or even inside at guard.

LSU has 2 LTs, but Emory Jones is playing RT because Will Campbell is the best LT prospect heading into the draft and IIRC, the best LT recruit when he was going to college.

Connor McGovern has played OG & C in the NFL and played RT, LT, & G in college. While he probably won’t make the pro-bowl or anything, he has done very well coming in as a FA during the season. When McCoy gets back healthy maybe he moves over to LG and solidifies our O-line.
