N/S Trey Hendrickson has back to back 17.5 sack seasons (2 Viewers)

Should’ve kept him. He could be a building block of our defense. Even though he’s 30. I don’t remember why we let him walk but it was a big mistake. 3.5 sacks tonight and leads nfl in sacks.

He was an oft injured player who broke out in his final year after decisions had been made. The breakout priced him out of our range. The decision was to keep Marcus Williams.

We need to let the Trey Hendrickson narrative go. The organization made a business decision, the wrong one, as we have been apt to do in recent history, and we as fans have to deal with it. He's a great player that used to play for the Saints.

Bad decisions / cap mismanagement
The cap was out of control at the time because of extending (and tagging) players from the same draft class all at once. Along with existing cap hits to prime Cam Jordan, prime Michael Thomas and Drew Brees’ dead money. That many star draft picks due for a new deal at the same time isn’t talked about enough as the reason why the kicking the can started.

Someone was going to be the odd man out in extensions between Lattimore, Ramczyk, Williams, Kamara, and Hendrickson. They were all 15M+ players a piece in new market value AAVs after their rookie salaries. Combine 4 of those 5 with Thomas and Cam, and there’s 90-100M salaries tied to 6 star players. IIRC all of their contracts were front loaded in huge bonuses which put each cap hit in the 20M-30M range at the beginning of the deals.

If Covid never happens he gets resigned here, that’s if he indeed wanted to stay here

It wouldn't make any difference if he was here. Who.is to say he would have stayed healthy.

Any how, by the time N.O fields a playoff team, T Rex will be in decline.

They let him go because he abandoned run defense to sell out on rushing the passer. They wanted Davenport to develop instead, but as has been the case with every young player we've had the last few years, he couldn't stay on the field.
