Saints met with QB Shedeur Sanders [Deion Sanders ok with Saints drafting Shedeur]

Should the Saints draft QB Shedeur Sanders if he falls to #9?

Man even looking beyond the Sanders dad situation and the potential distraction, I'm really struggling to "convince myself" that Sanders would be an upgrade over Rattler especially when factoring in the high draft pick it would take to get him. I've been doing some deep dives on Sanders full games. Sure there are many plays that he is dominating and putting up big stats (against inferior teams in the "new" Big 12). However, there are so many bad sacks taken where he has options (he was sacked 42 times this past season), but holds the ball too long. Many of his deeper throws look to be underthrown to the point that Hunter and Horn simply are just better than the guys covering them and bail Sanders out making great plays on the ball. Sanders had 10 interceptions on the season playing against weak competition. Had he played in the SEC/Big 10, I'd imagine that number jumps even higher. I can only imagine what will happen in the NFL. He also lacks the arm talent that Rattler has. Sanders arm is somewhere between average/above average. His athleticism doesn't look much different than Rattler. I'd argue Rattler is better at escaping pressure even if Sanders "might" have better straight line speed. His final game against BYU was eye opening. It was one of 2 ranked teams he played this past season (Kansas State the other ranked game). He was rough in that game. Hunter made some plays to help his statline, but overall a very concerning look into what he may be as he transitions to the NFL level.

Point taken...but he can do it without the douchey-ness...that's all I'm saying. I don't deny the talent...its there, but this is beyond basic cocky-ness.

Soapbox moment

This is my rub with this generation, the whole "shut up - look at my watch" thing. Its as if he perceives his entire worth in his posessions as opposed to his accomplishments

- all of them (not all but a good chunk) just want :poop: witout accomplishing :poop: and they think that because they have :poop: it means that they're something. I blame the internet.

Cockiest person in this draft may very well be everyone’s favorite day three RB, but you won’t hear a peep about it I bet.

If I bring this post within a mile of an SPCA, every canine in there would lose its mind

I don't know about salivating, but I would imagine that Dallas, Miami, and Indy could be in on Sanders at #12, #13, and #14. Miami is the least likely because of Tua, but with his concussion issues, they may want insurance and Sanders probably fits well in that scheme. Indy really has no QB and Dallas may want to get the successor to DAK in the house and there is an obvious connection between Jerry and the Sanders family.

And further down there are Pittsburgh and maybe the Rams looking for the successor to Stafford.
I gotta think Dallas is his floor. He’d give the Cowboys an off ramp from Dak as soon as next year, and you know Deion will be on phone trying to lobby Jerry to bring Shedeur home. I could even see them moving up a few picks to get him if he makes it past 5 or 6.

But Archie didn't pick were Eli went. IIRC, the only request made was that San Diego didn't draft Eli, and SD went and drafted Eli anyway.
SD was in negotiations with NYG for a draft trade but ran out of time. So they drafted him knowing that they were going to get the trade done. Looking back on it, I think it was a smart move by the Giants. They likely got the deal they wanted knowing that Eli likely refuses to sign with SD and sits out the year.

SD didn't have to trade him (or draft him for that matter), but Archie didn't dictate either. It was Eli who didn't want to go to SD, not Archie not wanting Eli to go to SD.

And, let's not forget, this started as a private conversation between Eli, his agent, and SD. It was SD who aired it out, and Archie came in the picture to support Eli.

Coincidentally, Eli has said one of the things that went into that decision was how the Chargers were treating Drew Brees at the time.

But it certainly wasn't Archie dictating where he wanted Eli to play.
The chargers Gm at that time was A.J. Smith who ran that team as a dictator. Never gave Brees a real chance and tagged him prior to that draft only to insult him with a low ball contract the next year. Fired Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season, left Tomlinson and Sproles walk I am surprised he actually let Gates Stay longer than he did.
