Seemed like we were more open/on the front foot in the group stage, possibly due to 2/3 of the opposition not being at our level. But then in the knockout stage we went back to Berhalter ball it seemed?

To me, is simply quality of players. No Pulisic, no Weah.

Yeah, I keep hearing this was a B squad for the US, but I really think it was closer to a C squad. If we went back to the Nations League roster, how many of those second team / sub players were on this squad? I haven’t done the analysis.

I know this is typical of American soccer fans, but, if we’re going to do that, can we go full-on youth squad for a tournament and not pull in the aging veterans? We know what they are. They’re not developing any further. They’re fine as depth and maybe as mentors for crucial moments. But why not see what else is out there? Maybe you find a hidden gem?

It’s silly semantics
Our ‘A’ squad has 23 (or 26) players
That’s 2 full squads (A&B)
People are just too lazy to differentiate between 1st team and starting 11

Depending on competition, I’d say we have a 15 man A team
Their backs ups would be the B team - Jesus is probably the highest rank non goalie and he’s 3rd on depth chart (at least)

A bit of a rant, but my opinion, while the Gold Cup is a cash cow for CONCACAF, it is not a CONCACAF tournament, but a U.S. tournament, if you get what I am saying, and I feel the U.S. soccer governing body has an obligation to put the best available players on the field, and on a good field, not the crappy field the USMNT had to play that last match, and in freaking San Diego of all places, with a game start during rush hour.

The Gold Cup is the best opportunity they have to showcase the team to the U.S. fans. And I think the U.S. fans deserve to see the best product on the field the U.S. Soccer federation can present, in optimal conditions. Understanding, again, that the Gold Cup is a cash cow, it still bothers me that the U.S. team gets treated like a second class citizen in their own country, favoring the cash.

As for a youth movement... that really doesn't work with national teams. Players on national teams should already be developed.
