Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (19 Viewers)

He’s dead so I guess we may never know… but what did he think was going to happen when he went barreling down Bourbon street on one of the biggest party nights of the year? If the intent was to blow some ish up in a coordinated attack, you go down there quietly and inconspicuously. If you go barreling down the street running people over with cops literally everywhere, there’s a high probability your plan will be foiled. Like clearly this was not well thought out nor mitigations for risks considered at all.

I mean, I’m glad that his plan was foiled & that he got lit up, as it would have ended much worse but sometimes I just wonder if these criminals put any thought into their plans at all.
I guess what I’m getting at is that I feel like most of these fools must want to be caught because they are not thinking these things out or covering their tracks at all. We literally know who people are within a day of them committing a crime or they end up getting killed in the act.
The whole point of a terror attack is to make a splash and draw lots of attention. Going incognito won't draw the response you want. It's possible that the explosives were part of a secondary attack.

It goes like this...

Truck barrels down Bourbon
Gunman exits vehicle and inflicts max damage
He blows the truck on the way out
Secondary attacker watches from safe hotel
Secondary attacker detonates as people are responding to injured.

It's a well known tactic.

Yeah but like max damage & making a splash or statement would have been earlier in the night right as the clock struck 12 and just set off the bomb and disappear. I dunno… just seems like getting caught is all part of the plan and it doesn’t make sense to want to spend the rest of your life in jail when you could do your dirt & At least try to get away with it. Some of them I do realize want to do the whole suicide by cop thing. But I am not insane so my logical thinking doesn’t really fit.

Regardless if the attack was well planned or not, it did some damage.
Be thankful that the IEDs did not go off.

I wonder about that as well. Best guess is that he was stuck in traffic and running late.

You forget about the 72 virgins ya get dying for the cause.

I personally think with the global climate this is just the beginning. Lots of people just itching to drag us further into conflict whether we're willing or not.

I guess it's very likely that the plan was to inflict as much carnage as possible in order to draw first responders to the scene that he was headed for. The more horrendous the casualties, the more cops you draw. Once you've made it to the area designated, where the other IEDs were planted, then you set them off, killing civilians and cops alike.

I am watching the press conference from earlier. Senator Kennedy is a real clown. Is it common for representatives of every branch of local & state government stand at the podium and speak when something like this happens? Why didn't they just let the FBI representative speak and conclude the press conference in lieu of all this grandstanding?

There is a Shamsud Din Jabbar from Houston. Doesn't seem to fit the type. But I'm sure people will jump on that and start harassing the guy (assuming it's not the terrorist and he's, like, alive).
Or it actually was the guy I found online from Houston. Begs the question.... how the heck he became radicalized by ISIS.

Yes.
