Vehicle plows into crowd on Bourbon St., with 14 fatalities (65 Viewers)

Not in those exact words but i’ve heard people say that if the bollards had been in place to prevent traffic he would’ve found another way to inflict harm. As a matter of fact, it is my speculation that the truck wasn’t his plan A. I think if you are trying to inflict the most damage, he would’ve done it when the crowds were bigger at or right before midnight. The devices he planted wouldn’t detonate, so once he couldn’t get them to explode after a few hours he went to plan B.
I wonder if they didn't detonate because he's a crappy bomb-maker or if it's because people kept moving them and looking in the coolers for beers - maybe the wires got knocked loose or something.

Well if it helps, if I were a single woman, desperate, not much of a looker, and ok with dating a broke geyser and needed a “project”, I’d totally date you. :hihi:
If you got money you’re in! I’m now looking for a rich woman who wants a pool guy type. I can also fix broken ****, I’m not too hard on the eyes, and I’m still in good shape. Ran 7 miles yesterday at 10:18 pace :hihi:

So one can just “join” ISIS? Is there a sign-up fee? Makes me feel like he was more of an IS sympathizer than an actual member because you don’t just “join” like some book club.

ETA - not directed at you. Just the timleline where he cites joining ISIS in the summer made me laugh.
There was a mosque right down the street from his trailer. He was likely radicalized there. Apparently the main cleric guy was deported for preaching some really extremist stuff. The mosque has a history of it based on what I've read. Would not surprise me that the guy was so down and out that he turned to ISIS through someone at the mosque. It's swarming with feds now.

You can't be deported for free speech. Where did you read about this?

take it to the DMs you two

Between the 31st and 1st would be my guess. At most, Houston is a 6-hour drive. He leaves at 5pm, for example, he gets to NOLA at 11pm.

Just seems like a really tight timeline for him to get the AirBnB, make bombs and leave stuff there before the hits Bourbon. Also seems it would have made it almost impossible to do this at midnight which I assumed was the plan but something went wrong.

And it just seems odd to even bother with the AirBnB if he would only be there a couple hours. He could have just made the bombs in Houston.

I love thinking that the alcoholics inadvertently saved New Orleans from greater tragedy by looking for free beer. We should add that chapter to Confederacy of Dunces.

I just realized that there will be a fair number of Mardi Gras costumes ‘commemorating’ this event
In fact, I have to imagine it will be difficult for Krewe d Vieux to not have a float about it

Don't tell other folks your problems. 80% don't care and the other 20% are glad you have them :hihi:

I'm only partially joking. However, I did open up on another site about a couple recent problem with which I'd been struggling and was surprised and heartened by the support I received. Many thanked me for being strong enough to discuss my mental health issues. We're still not at a point in society where emotional concerns are treated with the same gravity as physical concerns. Trauma is cumulative and everyone has a breaking point, and I had reached mine. I'm improving now that the holidays are over.
Keep in mind people love to give vocal support but that's about where it ends.

I still mostly live by the "keep my mouth shut" mantra. My wife doesn't want to hear every little thing that's bothering me so I don't tell her. I just suck it up and trudge on until it passes.

I havent lived in NOLA for many moons so i wasnt familiar with the ‘new’ police chief (who has probably been there for a while but is new to me) beyond having heard her name… but during the press conference the other day i was thinking ‘Hey i kinda like this old broad’.. in contrast to some of the other officials she seemed to have her ish together.. then- she starts in with the ‘New Orleans is still a fun town, dont worry about anything just go out and have a great time !!11!!11!!’ .. that whole schtick, when everything on Bourbon St had JUST happened… i was like come on, read the room lady .
I typically have been ok with Chief Kirkpatrick until the PC. It seemed like Cantrell's political folks got to her because those lines sounded every bit like the mayor.

You got me too. :idunno: Distraction maybe?

I would imagine there's still a lot to the story we're missing.

Some of these larger networks are showing video of this guy barreling down Bourbon. One red hair chick ran down the street instead of toward the sidewalk and missed getting hit by inches. Then they show further down where another girl (looks like the 18 year old) did the same thing. They stop the video right before impact. This truck was absolutely blazing. EVs are obviously no joke when it comes to torque and acceleration.

When did CNN and the other large networks start this? They usually never go that far with it. Not something I'd want to see twice. Or at all.

So to add to the timeline, a door camera has him unloading the truck at the Airbnb around 10pm.

You can't be deported for free speech. Where did you read about this?

You can be deported for a lot of things. Being a resident alien doesn't grant you full U.S. Constitutional rights. Just failing to report a change of address can get you deported, so I am certain promoting violence or animosity against the U.S. government or its people will get someone deported.

Dug further and his app for perm residency was denied. Doesn't say why. There was mention in other articles of the mosque's history of extremism and his preaching of.

"In 2003, he applied for permanent residency to stay in America as a religious minister. His application was initially approved but revoked four years later by the government, without reason."
