Vet G/C Shane Lemieux signed to active roster, Erik McCoy placed on IR (1 Viewer)

I was hoping that Hergel would get the call up. Lemieux did not impress me in preseason. But I trust that Kubiak, Dennison, and Benton know better than me who is the best option.
You expressed my thoughts exactly.

Hergel looks like he’d be perfect in our old system. Good pass blocker, not sure about his movement skillls.

It doesn't mean that Kyle Hergel or Chris Reed won't be a Gameday Active Elevated player. Both could be.

I doubt the Saints will go into this game this Sunday with only 8 OLinemen active. That's been the MO the 1st 3 weeks.

With the McCoy injury and with Ruiz nursing a sore ankle and knee I think they have no less than 9 active this Sunday. At least they can try some different combos should there be struggles or any further injuries.

It's time for Saldiveri to step up and prove his worth.

Current Saints Offensive Linemen On The Active 53-Man Roster:
1. Ruiz
2. Penning
3. Patrick
4. Fuaga
5. Udoh
6. Saldiveri
7. Young
8. Lemieux

Practice Squad Offensive Linemen Eligible To Be Elevated As Gameday Actives:

1. Hergel
2. Reed
3. Deculus
4. Ezirim

If Ruiz is not 100% we could see 2 Practice Squad Offensive Linemen Elevated to the Gameday Active Roster this Sunday.

Ooof.

Lemieux didn't impress me too much either. But lets hope he has gotten better over these past weeks and can do a decent job. Well we'll find out soon enough. I was hoping for Hergel too.

I was thinking the same thing, however we still have a rookie at left tackle, a young player still figuring out right tackle.

We have a right guard that's nursing a knee injury.

I'm willing to bet the coaches wanted to go after an experienced guys to try and help hold this line together. Lemieux has played different positions in football games and has seen different defensive units. Hergel is too raw right now.

Especially when they are going against our biggest division rival , at their house.

With only a few days of practice, personally, I'd rather have two experienced journeyman guys on this offensive line than another rookie.

Because we can expect these new players to execute their assignments perfectly, Kubiak will have to devise a gameplan that keeps the Atlanta defense off balance. If the Saints start displaying tendencies from the start, it will be like the Falcons are in our offensive huddle.

The key will be the condition of Taysom Hill and how much they can implement him into the offense. If he is still limited, the number of weapons remaining will be slim. I get the feeling that Kamara will definitely be limited (or even benched) if he's not a Full Participant at practice this week.

If the Saints are forced to go to the air to try to move the ball, the Falcons defense will know they can pin their ears and get top Carr. Being one dimensional just won't work with a makeshift O-line. This is not a good way to have to go into such an important road rivalry game. Whoever we have left on the active roster will have to come ready to excel this week. Failure is not an option.

I'm thinking Lemieux's elevation is primarily to be the backup center. I would expect the starting guards to be some combination of Young/Saldeveri/Udoh (assuming Ruiz can't go).

To be fair, Penning and Patrick didn't impress in the preseason either.

We were not running our OL scheme in the preseason. It was just big man block stuff, and that's not our offense.

So Lemieux may be better with the real offense.
