There is always going to be some movement of the brain but limiting the severity of that movement needs to be reduced. I’m not a mechanical engineer but to me a system that distributes the impact would be something I would look at. If there was a way to incorporate the helmet and shoulder pads into a system that shifts most of the impact into the shoulders and away from the head or neck I think that might be the answer.

It's a sad deal. Apparently every football player has CTE. I guess there are levels to it. The worst part is that there is no solution. They can work on helmet technology but that can only go so far. There is no cure for bigger, faster, stronger.

I worked with a dude who played in NFL, very nice dude when concussion movie was released with will smith I asked him how he felt about CTE, he said it is very real and he suffered from it, said all players suffer from it at varies degrees, After I asking him would notice some days he wasnt rude just not himself, before asking I thought it was just having bad days, the management at that job was pretty bad, but after asking him, I begin to wonder. He also didnt let his son play til high school and from then on I never discourage my stepson from playing but I made sure he tried every sport and not just focus on football.. Even people now who play now, I wonder, example Antonio Brown. Dude's behavior is during that whole episode was weird, it might be him, but it was like dude went from mask singer to maniac in a few years. Dude took some big hits a steeler. I'm not a Dr just my observation

I was thinking about this story this morning, and my mind went in 40 different directions.

1) the NFL is a joke. When a guy like Taysom can get his bell rung, and the guy who does it doesn’t get a slap on the wrist, what are you really doing?
2) I hate when we (or any other team) gets called for a roughing penalty (that isn’t a roughing penalty), but I also get upset when a real roughing penalty is called and it negatively impacts the team. If I myself want to take things more seriously about CTE, I need to accept that those are bad hits. And coaches/players really should remove those hits from their repertoire, as it only harms the cause they are fighting for.
I was just going to mention Taysom getting blasted and no fine and no suspension. That right there sent a message the NFL don't care.

Yes. It is sad. No matter what helmet you use, it can't keep the brain from bouncing around and banging against your skull, unfortunately.

Yes, because CTE is not even about the head impacting anything. It's about decades of repeated rapid acceleration and deceleration of the head.

Some lifelong headbangers get CTE just from decades of violently shaking their heads back and forth while rocking out. Every time their head changes direction, their brains impact the skull without any noticeable effects in the moment. Each time causes incremental damage that if repeated thousands of times leads to permanent CTE damage.

Unreal.. well actually very real..

I know he passed back in Feb.. but still.. the results coming out now..

.. the NFL has got to get this together , and fast!

38 years old.. smh.. damn..

Makes me wonder how many others are gonna' drop over the next few years..

not sure Vincent Jackson followed by an exclamation point is the appropriate thread title, makes it sound like you're excited

Maybe they should play without helmets, or bust out those old school leather helmets
You mean the time when they would break out the ammonia pellet to wake them up and send them back in the game?

Going back to the days of the Gladiators and Rome.. All this time and nothing has changed.. IMO nothing ever will, only pleasing the stands, that's all that is going to ever matter, with all due repect to you, me and everyone else that tunes in to our champions come time to battle..

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, i've played/lived the game, but damn, something has got to be done.. Not a day goes by where i'm not thankful that my eggs are still in their shell..

Speaking of head injuries…it looked like Parnell just had a seizure for the Chargers. The contact was minimal if any which is really concerning.

The NFL should do a study comparing NFL Players and Rugby players for concussions and brain damage. IMO NFL players feel they have advanced protection in todays helmets so they are less afraid to use their heads to tackle, hit, etc. Where as Rugby players have no helmet or padding and are still running full speed knocking the crap out of each other. I have no idea what the concussion percentage is in Rugby and it’s not very popular in America so maybe we just don’t hear about it but those guys know how to hit and tackle properly without placing their heads in bad positions.

We decided in our house our son can watch and love the Saints all he wants but there’s no way he’s playing football
