Walter Football's Take on the Winston Signing (3 Viewers)

Really lazy, uninformed take. He says that we would be better off just blowing it up and starting over. He obviously doesn't have a strong understanding for how this roster was built. Because of how a lot of our contracts are designed they can't simply blow it up. Even if they traded/cut the highest priced players we'd still be looking at monstrous cap hits/dead money and we wouldn't have the players or cap space to bring in replacements.

The blow it up ship has sailed. At least for the next few years. I understand not being overly excited about the Saints bringing back Winston but it's all relative. Who was out there that would've been a better option? Considering who was available I'd say it was a strong signing especially when you factor in his cap friendly contract.

What's interesting with Atlanta "blowing it up" is we will have a perfect test case to see how that plays out.

I'm guessing 5 years from now we will still be better off than Atlanta and still playing the same salary cap game and the same guys will still be insisting that they were correct that we should have blown it up totally ignoring the fact that we will probably win around 55 games over that 5 year span while Atlanta wins maybe 15.

It was pragmatic from a team that has basically emphasized "keeping the band together". It doesn't hurt us long term
Do we overvalue Jameis? Yes. Is he better that Watson? Not even close. Will he make the Super Bowl difference? No. Will he keep us relevant? Probably. It doesn't hurt us at all given the price and if our defense holds up we will be ok. If he exceeds expectations we are golden. If not, we will soon find another Ian Book to run the show.
