Walterfootball 2011 3round Mock Draft (3 Viewers)

i know you guys arent into OSU boys but their defense is one of the best in the country and guys like tyler moeller and cameron heyword seem to fit our scheme

cameron heyward is a defensive end and the leader of that defense

tyler moeller plays a type of troy polamalu role where he switches between safety and linebacker. hes real fast but he has a history of serious injuries that could drop him on draft day

running back i could see us looking hard at a guy like noel devine

A couple years ago the only reason I didn't like Cushing and Matthews was because they went to USC and look where that got me. I've learned it's all about the prospect and not the school.

This week is a big test for Heyward because he's going up against Wisconsin's tackle that looks to have a future in the NFL. It'll be interesting to see how he does. I've heard people classify him as more of a 5-tech but he might have a future as a LDE. I'm not familiar with Moeller, I'll have to keep an eye out for him if I get the game.

if that's the case then stephen paea could be the jared odrick-type consideration of 2011 along with drake nevis and jurell casey.

Those are the exact same 3 guys I think we'll be keeping an eye out on draft day.

funny thing is that im pretty sure we would've wanted him this year but his 3 mil a year cap number was likely too high. it will be lower when he's no longer with the jets.

Plus we would have had to trade a pick for him.

isn't kerrigan the kid from purdue? i read somewhere that he's more of a try hard guy rather than a raw skills guy. im hoping that we can add someone with both an edge rush and a bull rush.

Yeah that's him and that's exactly how I'd classify him. He's kind of like Brandon Graham, not overly impressive athletically but he plays hard every snap and more importantly he has good strength. Plus he seems to have a knack for creating turnovers. He's never going to be a star but he'll make a very reliable bookend to a more naturally talented DE like Will Smith. But he's being over hyped and will go way earlier than he should, like in this mock draft mid first round seems wayyy to high.

don't really understand why you would be so sour on austin even in the third round.:hihi:

he's had four sacks in 2 of the last 3 years and i understand that he's had issues academically and has even gotten kicked off of his team but i don't see how either of those things makes him any worse than anthony hargrove, junior galette, or carlos dunlap.

it's seems like you really, really, hate this guy. i admitt i haven't followed everything that's gone on between austin and UNC but judging from your distaste of austin i get the feeling that there's more than just the academic issues to be concerned with.

It's not so much me it's what this FO would do. I don't really care about off the field issues, it's just the FO doesn't seem interested in players that have questionable work ethic when it comes to practice and that's where Austin's issue is. He is supremely talented but he'll never reach his potential because it seems like he just doesn't care.

If it were up to me I would take him in the 2nd but it's not. If he goes in the 2nd he's not going to have a big pay check so it's not like he can just take the money and run and I'm a big believer in this locker room and how it can transform players.

Gallete and Hargrove have a great work ethic and give it their all whenever they are on the field, that's why they are on this team. Dunlap didn't have that good of a work ethic and while I liked the guy I don't know what our FO's stance was on him. Heck, we passed on Griffen in the 3rd so who knows.

you wont have much luck with that. he tore his pec earlier this year. hes done for the season

There is no way to predict who this team will pick...they will likely not pick any OLB or DT/DE in the first four rounds and sign a wr in the first and a qb in the second....after last years draft there is just no way of knowing. That's not to say they don't find good players just unknown and unexpected.....

I don't follow NCAA as much as some of you, but after watching Bruce Carter from UNC pwn it up, I'd be pretty happy seeing him drafted. I do realize that for some reason, the FO hates spending a top pick on an OLB. But this guy seems the real deal holifield.

i also really like the nick fairley who fits the gregg williams NT mold perfectly and reminds me alot of darrel russell because of his ability to get a pass rush. he already has 5 sacks so far this year.

fairley

marcell dareus is an ideal sized 3-tech that i'd also like to see in the black and gold. Both dareus and fairley are juniors.

26. Da 'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
The Saints apparently had their sights on Jerry Hughes in the 2010 NFL Draft before the Colts snatched him off the board one pick beforehand. New Orleans has only 10 sacks through five games, so they may target a defensive end at the bottom of the first round.

Da'Quan Bowers is a really athletic defensive end who is finally starting to put it together. If he continues to play well, he'll continue to rise in my 2011 NFL Mock Draft.

58. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon St.
You have to dig around to find a glaring weakness on the Saints roster. Perhaps the only prevalent one is at defensive tackle next to Sedrick Ellis.

83. Mason Foster, OLB, Washington
The Saints acquired this pick from the Redskins in the Jammal Brown trade.

Scott Shanle has struggled since playing well in the opener. The Saints need an upgrade.

90. Jeron Johnson, SS, Boise St.
The Saints have a bunch of expiring contracts this March at safety, so they might look for depth in the middle rounds of the 2011 NFL Draft

this week's projection:

New Orleans Saints: Von Miller, DE/OLB, Texas A&M

The Saints apparently had their sights on Jerry Hughes in the 2010 NFL Draft before the Colts snatched him off the board one pick beforehand. New Orleans has only 11 sacks through six games, so they may target a pass-rusher at the bottom of the first round.

Von Miller hasn't done much this year, but he's been injured, and double- and triple-teamed on every play.

Pick change; previously Da'Quan Bowers, DE

Good call on Fairley, he looked like a man beast out there today.

I know it's kinda early for draft talks, but i really want an freakish athletic linebacker. Someone who can rush the QB and actually use his speed to chase down plays.

disappointed now, man.

was hoping that he'd slide and fly under the radar. now he could realistically hit 10 sacks this year and go top ten.:jpshakehead: seriously, the kid reminds me of guys like dan wilkerson, eric swann, and darrell russell. we won't even have a shot to trade up unless he slips to the teens.

Its never to early for draft talk because the players in it are playing right now. If my team isn't playing then the next best thing is to watch some prospects.

I know what you mean. When I first saw Ryan Kerrigan I was like I really like this guy, maybe we could get him in the 2nd round. Not anymore. I watched some of him today and he's a lot quicker off the snap then I realized.

that quickness is very underated.

guys like greg romeus and d'quan bowers fail to impress me because of their lack of it. i still have not seen kerrigan so i hope that he gets invited to the senior bowl.

i saw sam acho in the championship game last year and was very impressed by him. he had four sacks in 5 games last time i checked on him and had 10 last year. of course im hoping that we somehow aquire gholston who will only turn 25 next year because he's as talented as clayborn or heyward.
