What do you think made it click for Sam Darnold? (1 Viewer)

i’m a fan of darnold but as a free agent i would be weary. every qb is good with minn weapons. If someone like the raiders throw the bank at him it won’t be good. He needs players to succeed

Pretty good chance that everyone looks way better in that offense. The Vikings will likely move on to McCarthy next year, and surprise, he’ll be a great QB

Where was this Sam Darnold? He came out of nowhere to become one of the nfl's best this year. Do you think it's a one year wonder thing or a true picture? Kinda similar to Baker Mayfield? Thoughts?
Sam was a #1 or near the top pick which means he went to a bad team and maybe organization which was not the best. Combine that with having to learn the game and it took time and the right organization to make it work. Look at Baker Mayfield. Started in Cleveland had to learn the game, disorganized mess of a franchise. Gets out of there goes to the Rams and shows he can play but just can’t overtake a talented Matthew Stafford for that job. Goes to the right situation in Tampa bay and look at him last couple years. Geno smith sat for a couple years before he got the right opportunity with the Seahawks. I do think what we seeing is the real Sam Darnold reaching his potential in the right situation.

Did it click?

Kind of crazy to think the Panthers had Mayfield and Darnold on the cheap and let them both walk.

Did you see him against the Lions. He’s still the same Sam. Hopefully he lights it up against the Rams so the Vikings vastly overpay for him and trade their rookie

Still has happy feet

Still feels pressure that isn’t there when he gets hit a couple times

Still comes off receivers way too fast in the redzone

Still can’t manipulate the pocket

Just surrounded by great talent with a coach that can coach

Same thing that happened to Baker Mayfield. Go to a team that had a couple of stud WRs and pretty good o-line and runningback. Also helps that defense is pretty good as well.

The thing that all QBs who taste success needs; coaching, scheme, and players around him (for the QBs that aren't king makers)

One thing that is often missed is this is the same team that had Kirk Cousins looking like the MVP front runner last seasons before his injury. Like @BBarnes stated, he still has deficiencies, but the scheme, those receivers, and that freaking defense covers a lot of them.

After last week, I'm not sure things have clicked entirely. He definitely was part of their success, but I'm not so sure he's the reason for it. I'm glad some team not named the Saints are going to overpay for him in the offseason. Most likely just to see JJ McCarthy do about the same next season.

Having a year to step back and learn from a real offensive coach then moving to another team with a real offensive coach. The two situations he was in with the Jets and Panthers were career ruining.

His first two stints were not with real coaches or in real NFL offenses.

Same with Baker.

Getting drafted by some teams like the Browns or Jets is just a waste. Neither organisation knows what it is doing.

He has the 2nd best WR in football…. It’s not that hard. Surround your mid QB with incredible weapons and he will look pretty damn good.

Which is why I’ve been pounding the table for a draft full of young and uber talented playmakers on offense.

He’s had solid Olines before…. He’s never had a Justin Jefferson.
BS 2017 thru 2020 the Jerts had some of the worst OLs in the league
In 21 Car was #30 and 22 #24th ranked OL

In Min he has the #6 bunch of "Fat Guys" at pass blocking , so he can get the ball to Jefferson
