A few quick notes. I am assuming that Glenn will shortly sign with the Jets. After Sunday's games, teams may show more interest in Joe Brady and Kellen Moore. And the information below is based on reports I have seen online.

There were seven teams looking for a new head coach. Now there are four (again, assuming Glenn is going with the Jets). This is what I am reading about the three teams other than the Saints looking a new head coach:

Jacksonville

The Jaguars wanted Tampa OC Liam Coen, but he apparently is staying in Tampa after getting a big contract increase. They are looking at Raiders DC Patrick Graham and Robert Saleh.

Las Vegas

They wanted Ben Johnson. They are looking at Saleh, Pete Carroll, Ron Rivera, Steve Spagnuolo, and Denver DC Vance Joseph.

Dallas

The great unknown. They are looking hard at their OC Brian Schottenheimer. After Sunday, there could be interest in Kellen Moore.

General Note

I am not seeing where the other three teams are showing an interest in Mike McCarthy (whom I do not favor), or in Anthony Weaver (whom I like) or Mike Kafka (whom I would like to know more about).

Maybe it's the visor, but Schottenheimer gives off DA vibes to me. That ain't what Dallas wants.

The only candidates that the saints are interviewing (that I can find for now) that are also drawing interest from other teams are Kellen Moore and Joe Brady. The Jags are expected to make a hard push for Brady starting as early as next week since losing out on Coen.

Kafka and McCarthy were two names that came up when coach searches began but have seem to have died out for some reason amongst most teams that were originally reported to be interested.

It almost feels as if the Saints will be left picking a coach that no one else really wants. I think the bigger question is why does no one want McCarthy? The Bears and Saints were the only two teams interviewing for him and the Bears went with Ben Johnson.

With Coen out of the running, outside of maybe Kellen Moore, I like the options we are looking at over any of those. Honestly, I like Rizzi over any of those other than Moore. McCarthy, Brady, Kingsbury, Moore, Kafka, Weaver, and Rizzi are all better options that what the others are left with.

But despite there appearing to be little overlap in who we are looking at and who other teams are looking at, I'm sure the narrative will become we had to take whatever was left over from the other teams no matter who we hire.

Although I do think Kellen Moore could still be in play in Dallas.

I just feel like the Saints will get the table scraps leftover from the meal. Maybe just ahead of the Raiders.

Like clockwork. Seriously, there is only one candidate in common between the Saints and Dallas, Kellen Moore, and no candidates in common between the Saints and Jags or Raiders. We might not pick the right HC, but it won't be because were were forced to take whatever the Raiders, Jags, and Cowboys didn't want.

My predictions:

Raiders: Ron Rivera, they will want a “name” and for being the poorest organization they seem to blow plenty of money on coaches, but they can’t spend the huge money other teams are.

Cowboys: Pete Carroll, JJ will want the best proven coach he can get. Wild Card would be Sanders

Jags: They will go with Salah and try to get the best Offensive Coordinator they can

Saints: McCarthy with Kafka at OC/AHC

The Jags, after losing Coen are supposedly zeroing in on Brady who we're interviewing also.

If the choice is McCarthy, the question will be asked of why more teams did not show an interest. If anyone else is picked, few will raise that question. The difference is that McCarthy is just so well known. Head coaching experience is a big plus. If he is highly thought of, teams should be lining up--unless there is a feeling that McCarthy could use or wants a year away from the game, or there are real doubts over how good of a coach he has been or will be going forward. With assistant coaches, there are so many possible candidates, and it's like picking a favorite ice cream other than chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

oooooo this is fun. I'm gonna give my opinions.

Raiders : Sanders
Cowboys : Moore
Jags : Joe Brady
Saints : Rizzi

Many feel the Saints is the worst opening available so why would you expect to get one of the better candidates?

The overlap between us and the Jags at the moment is both being stiffed by Ben Johnson and then turned down by our presumed/reported preferred choice (Glenn and Cohen).

Both teams are on to plans B, C, and D.

A true Loomis hater would note that JAX also has a big boss GM who has the unshakable backing of the owner which may or may not have an impact on potential HC hires.

And a reasonable person would point out that Loomis, despite all his faults, has a much better reputation than Baalke.

I think there is little doubt that Glenn was the first choice and we won't get him. But, I think McCarthy is the second choice and we are likely to get him. He may not work out, but it won't be because we had to take whatever is left over.

Sometimes buzz surrounding a coach cools down because it becomes known through back channels that they’re spoken for and/or that they aren’t interested in certain jobs.

A lot of back channel conversations go on with these things. The entire process isn’t just the public show that gets put on.
