What Movies do you Hate that Everyone Else Loves? (11 Viewers)

Ok i probably mentioned this earlier in the thread- but i just caught part of Field of Dreams again.. and my take used to be that it’s a flawed, overrated film.. now im just gonna come out and say it: Field of Dreams is simply a bad movie .. like, a really bad movie .

Don't like Kevin Costner and I agree, it really didn't resonate with me at all...

I dont usually have an issue with Costner , except for in 13 Days, his Boston accent was atrocious.. but Field of Dreams to me is way too syrupy and sentimental.. i actually like sentimental ish up to a point, but it was too much even for me.. what I dont like is supernatural crap introduced only to advance the plot.. to me, it’s lazy writing.. oh, he hears a voice ?? How convenient .. Oh, and dead guys show up to play baseball ?? It’s just so over the top..honestly, the more i watch it the more it seems to me almost like religious overtones with the ‘supernatural’ and ‘magical thinking’ elements.. which might also explain why it sucks .

You’re describing fiction

I never liked the Lost Boys .

Two movies that i think are good movies but just never understood the fuss, didnt think they were great- and thought they were - dare i say *overrated- were Ghostbusters and Silence of the Lambs .
Ghostbusters was good because I was 13 years old. I probably wouldn't bother these days.

Silence of the Lambs was fun because of the crowd I was in. I was on a date in Calumet City which was where the movie had Buffalo Bob living.

I always had fun watching movies there. The stereotype of some crowds yelling at the characters often held true and it was fun.

I’ve told this story here before I’m sure
Went to Boyz in the Hood opening weekend in nyc
Gramercy Park neighborhood so not exactly rowdy
The scene where (spoiler) Tre was having his freak out moment with his gf after Ricky got shot - just punching and screaming and crying- the whole theatre (500 seats?) is tomb quiet
His gf finally gets him to calm down and there’s a beat and you can tell they’re going to get busy
All of a sudden - not too loud - you hear a voice confidently say ‘works every time’
And the crowd of hardened NYers just hurts out laughing
Should have been a horrible, annoying interruption to a chilling moment, but dang if it wasn’t perfect

Well, I will agree, he mos def can't do accents. But I have seen FoD more times than I can count (at least 20 till I ran out of fingers and toes) and can nearly recite the entire movie line for line. And the day I'm not lightly crying by the time Darth Vader says "People will come, Ray. People will most definitely come" and sobbing by the time John Dutton says "Hey, dad, you wanna have a catch" is the day I'll know my heart is cold.

I first saw FOD upon its release, in a theater at 15 yrs old.. I thought then, and I think now - that it’s got a couple nice moments, I remember liking the ‘have a catch’ line as well as the line of cars at the end , I thought that was a nice touch… but I remember thinking, and im not sure I even knew this word back then- but I definitely thought the whole movie was contrived.. and required just a little too much suspension of disbelief to be enjoyable.
