What was the Saints signature win in 2017/18? (2 Viewers)

Buffalo was glorious...maybe the biggest beat down I’ve seen as a Saints fan (my memory of the dome patrol is fuzzy).

But I’m going to have to go with Washington. That was one of the biggest comeback wins in Saints history. Winning the impossible ones probably builds more confidence that trouncing a team.

I'll keep the trend going with Buffalo. We have all seen the past Saints teams dominate teams just like that with the outcome of the score but never in the way that they did. The 2018 / new Saints teams are focused on Defense and rushing rather than Offense and passing. I loved everything about that sunday, sitting on the couch, watching us destroy a team in the way that nobody (even myself) expected us to do.

The way they mauled Buffalo impressed me the most. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Saints just run it down the throats of their opponent for four quarters the way they did that game.

The Buffalo game was a joy to watch. I have watched it again at least 4 times on the DVR, and I don't typically do that. Not only was the running game unstoppable, the defense played really well - and we actually had quite a few really nice passing plays when we needed conversions.

Just a complete performance in every sense of the word.

Not Washington. That was a mediocre team who had lost Chris Thompson early in the game.
Not Buffalo. It's Buffalo.

I would first go with beating Carolina in the playoffs. The way we held them off at the end and completed the 3-game sweep was most impressive. The coach and players let us know what a signature win it was with the broom dance.

Close behind is the Falcons game, which had so much riding on the line for the division title. The Ginn TD before halftime and then the goal-line stand in the 2nd half were signature-esque.

All of our road wins. Road games make me anxious, and we needed a lot of road wins to compete for home field advantage. Every road win made me very happy.

The Washington game did it for me.

I want to say Buffalo because that game was a beat down of epic proportions. I could also make a case for the comeback win over Washington but I definitely have to go with the first Carolina game. Everyone knew it, the front office, the coaches, the players and even the media. The Saints absolutely HAD to win that game otherwise the season was over. They responded by dominating Carolina in Carolina. That win single handedly saved our season and if not for a fluke miracle play we quite possibly could have won the Superbowl. I hate Minnesota. :mad1:

The Falcons on Christmas eve.

That game accurately sums up 2017 in a nutshell. The announcers late in the 2nd quarter make a comment of how the Saints defense is dominating despite the low scoring. Our offense struggled on 3rd down all year and in this game, the defense did what they were doing best most of the season by giving the offense second chances to get it right. We had to grind this game out with Smashmouth offense like we had been doing all year as our strength.

13-0 at half time felt like 24-0 and despite only winning 23-13 that game felt like a 40 burger beat down without being one.

I guess it depends on each individual person's definition of "statement game".

My personal definition is essentially a game where the doubt has officially been eliminated that a team is for real and a legitimate threat to contend for a championship.

I personally don't think it took until week 16 on Christmas Eve for that to happen with the Saints............though that game certainly brightened most of our holidays, for sure.

I guess the "downside" of a good season is that usually it involves multiple scenarios to choose from, when it comes to this sort of thing. Just like in 2009.........there were the Washington and Miami comebacks......not to mention throttling the Giants in a game where both teams were undefeated...........but at the end of the day, most people are gonna say the New England MNF game was the statement game of that season.

The last game in the 8 game win streak was big, and surely sent a message to the NFC.

The only thing that could ever top the butt pick is a flying butt sack to the face.

It's too bad the Falcons made the playoffs last year cause that play could've had the same significance as the butt-fumble marking the end of Rex Ryan Jets' run.

Carefully rewatch the play...you can see Lattimore’s butt cheeks mouthing “My division, Matty Imprecise.”

A lot of good nominations in here.

I’d say our best all around performance was Buffalo and would be my vote for “if I should watch 1 game from last season, which one tells me the most about the Saints.”

I don’t agree with Detroit because it was too wacky of a game and we almost let them climb back into it.

The first game against Carolina is another good one. Early in the season, but still felt like the season could be over. I think this was our defenses’ true coming out party. Our defense was supposed to be new and improved, but we started the year with two awful games reminiscent of years prior. Even last seasons turnovers felt like dumb luck, but this was the first game in a while that felt like we TOOK the ball away .

The second game against Atlanta was awesome. I really felt like we got screwed in game one. Not to say that bad calls are the only reason we lost, but taking away that field goal on such a bogus penalty really felt like the wind came out of the sails for a bit. I think if that field goal stands, we steamroll Atlanta in the second half. The second game was like the big fight after school that everyone has been waiting for all day. The bell rang and Atlanta got what was coming to them. We only won by 10, but it felt like a first round KO.

The Washington game was a real treat. The way Drew took over and Kamara and Ingram with some big plays to finish the come from behind late in the game. But I’ll have to agree, th “signature” game for me was the Buffalo game. The all rushing drive blew my mind. Who Dat!?
