When does Colston get his deal? (1 Viewer)

I would imagine that it would be after the Saints lock up their draft picks, or sometime after the draft. Who knows, maybe they might work on it before the draft. I just hope they can get a deal done before training camp, because you gotta think he is gonna hold out if there isnt a deal done. And you dont wanna have both Colston and your first round draft pick holding out at the same time.

if the saints are smart they would do it next year, of franchise him next year... and work on the deal...cause it's gunna be LARGE!!

I say they wait till this season to start talks... They know they can franchise him if need be, and they probably wanna see him perform in his 3rd season. We all know what kind of a player he is, but I say they give him one more playing season before they begin talks...

I feel bad for Colston.
Devery is making more money than him.
Five times more.
Houser is making twice as much too.
:dunno:
Get it done. I think we might have been waiting for Moss to be ruled out completely first. He is. Get the deal done.

I think we willl do it this summer.

We need to know who else we sign in free agency. We need to know about Deuces' status on a restructure. We need to know who we take in the draft, that changes if we move.

But Colston is a 7th round pick (pay is not that great for 7th rounders), and he and his agent both know if he performs again, the moon will be the target.

But, what if we offer a young man the big bucks a year early? What if he likes playing for us and wants to stay? What if he doesn't want to risk the posibility (knock on wood!) of a bad injury next year?

And if he's not happy about someone elses pay, it would be his chance to be the highest paid receiver on the team, an ego thing.

Straighten out the rest we're gonna do before summer. Then move on him, Smith, and Evans.

He'll definately get a new contract before this upcoming season. Like others have said i too think it'll be this summer. Colston is such a beast. IMHO I wouldnt trade him for any wr in the nfl.

He's a restricted free agent next year which means if he doesn't get a new contract before the end of 2008, he would likely receive the highest tender offer of what is 2.5 million this year I believe.

They wouldn't have to franchise him until after the 2009 season. The same goes for Jahri Evans. These are reasons why I think Colston's new contract will be considered a bargain, assuming it gets done this summer. Same for Evans if they decide to extend him now.

It is my understanding that W. Smith, J. Evans AND Colston all have their contracts expire after this year. IF this is true, we can't afford to wait until next yr to renew at least two of these contracts. We only get one franchise tag....

I say we cut him ASAP. It'll send a message to all those guys out there thinking we're just going to "give" them a contract.
