When will people stop [bagging on Peat] (1 Viewer)

When I'm being more patient with Peat... You may need to relax.

It's week one
No OTA, Preseason, etc
Great front 7 with an elite interior D line designed to put pressure on Brees.

I refuse to single out Peat, the offensive line as a whole played bad in pass protection and the run game, very reminiscent of the Min game. We had 160 yards passing with Drew seldom able to setup in the pocket and there was little to no daylight or holes for the running game in which Kamara averaged only 1.3 yards per carry. Zimmer has put the blueprint out there = you no longer have to fear the deep ball with the Saints , stack the box, blitz with inside and outside pressure, play a short field. Our offense is basically in a red zone every possession due to the short field opponents are playing us with. It is much more difficult to have success facing that , it is why offenses bog down in the red zone. Also it contributes to losses behind the line on screens etc, many times Kamara was not only being hit 5 yards in the backfield but it was by 3 defenders which is worrisome. We have to find someway to stretch a defense effectively and loosen up this red zone defense opponents are playing us with. My faith is in Payton and Brees to figure this out

he got out really nicely on a screen and made a block. He was way out near the sideline and only got a small piece of his man, but a small piece of Peat is a big piece of man.

He had the one whiff, which looked like a bad decision, but he played a pretty good game from what I saw. Waiting on the breakdown.

From what I remember watching the game live...he had a great kick-out block on the Kamara TD...but them misread the rush on one play and totally whiffed on another. Both causing a sack and Kamara getting stuffed in the backfield. We just need Ruiz to get up to speed because it won't matter anyway when Peat is on the injury list in week 8.

yea we expect him to be good and stay healthy and play like Davenport who the saints gave up two 1st for in the draft.

My patience is about up with that dude too. Doesn't matter how good you are if you can't stay on the field.

There was one sack, which was on Kamara (or else on Easton and McCoy which seems less likely). Peat gave up a pressure in the second half when both ILB's crossed on a blitz. He also missed a block which lead to a TFL on Kamara.

Other than that, having watched the whole game again looking at Peat every offensive play, he was very good and made 3-4 key blocks leading to TD's or big plays.

If we are talking about the same play in your first paragraph that wasn't on Peat. Peat had already blocked two guys and the second one held him to keep him from getting to the delayed blitz. It was actually a phenomenal effort. On the tackle for a loss he had no chance to get to the edge when three bucs were over there and we pitched the ball into the strength of the D. I rewatched every single snap.

In the first half he did whiff on a block which I assume was miscommunication.

Kamara's pass pro was part of the problem. If he's going to be left in to block on passing downs, he has to be able to diagnose which man to take and actually impede his man. He looked like a bullfighter waving the bull right on by out there against Tampa.
He is already not an every down back. Now u want him to block too? LOL. Wishful thinking. I saw that also. Hope he improves in that area. We saw splashes of his brilliance. Lot of cheese paid just to catch passes IMO.

The TFL for loss I mentioned was the whiff on our first TD drive. I didn't really see anything other than that.

I agree on the pressure. It's not clear cut and that alabama blood cross is difficult. But he was the free man so to some extent, is left holding the bag. It goes that way sometimes. Hard to be too upset with it though and these are the type of intricate plays that require practice and repetitions.

Couple occassions probably could have done a little better but as I say, he made some very important blocks and was handling his business pretty well.

Kamara is actually a very good blocker. It's the reason he got so much playing time in the passing game when he was a rookie. He just missed one on Sunday.

Bagging on Peat all the time?

Just rewatched the game and he missed one block the whole game. In fact he pretty much dominated his man.

He was unsuccessful on another block on a sweep but it was more just great defense. In fact Alvin lost five or six yards on the play because three Bucs got to him in the backfield.

On another play he was held by the second defender that he stonewalled after tagging someone else first. When he was held it allowed a delayed blitzer to get by him. Should Peat really be expected to block three guys on one play.

All in all Peat was flat out dominant but he remains the fans whipping boy. This type of performance is why the saints paid him.
I don’t mind Peat but when he misses on plays it really looks bad. Like getting his own teammates injured bad.

it's because of the PFF player analysis - Peat has not scored well and that's considered the bible for some.
