Whiskey Thread (2 Viewers)

This thread made me realize something is missing.

Thinking a white wine, but honestly need to drink champagne left over from new years not even opened. How longs that stuff last? It's a fairly decent bottle.

None of you know it, but this salad is the best smelling salad I've ever made. Debating if it needs a pop of lemon. Maybe just the zest...

I've neglected this thread for a while and I've had many whiskey's since.

Top of the list, at least for rarity was the Van Winkle 12 I won in a grocery store lottery (won the right to purchase at MSRP).

I am currently on a work trip that brought me to Chicago, so I drove to my hometown in Michigan for the weekend. Near by, there is a distillery in Three Oaks Michigan called Journeyman. The food was solid, the place is cool and historic, and the whiskey's were nice. I bought a bottle of their Last Feather Rye, which is a rye/wheat mashbill. Sweet and rye spice. Definitely get a strong ripe banana flavor out of it. I'll have to taste it more when I get home (and then I'll include a picture), to remind myself of the rest of the profile.

What did you think? My memory is not close to the VW 15 and not worth the market value.

It was $100. I haven't had any of the other Pappy's, so I couldn't compare. At first, I really liked it.. then I had a cheaper wheated bourbon and thought they were similar.. then a week went by and I tried it again, and the Van Winkle was clearly better.

I think it has a good viscosity, darker sweet flavor and I enjoy it. I need to remind myself on tasting notes. I'm on travel and can't quite recall what I thought.

Aberfeldy 12 is a nice summer scotch. Perfect on a hot day. Nicely sweet and soft

Hitting a few liquor stores in northern Kentucky a couple years ago, had a clerk pull me aside and told me I could get an Elmer right then and there for $400 …. cash only. Yeah, no!

Your take makes me feel even better.
I also had a Lost Monarch Emerald Giant (rye that's around $36 a bottle) and it was very impressive for the price. The Elmer T Lee just tasted like a more boring Blantons, and I'm just meh on Blanton's. Not that it was bad, but there are just way better things especially considering the hype and secondary pricing. I can see why people would like it if they muted flavors. But I like bolder flavors, such as Rare Breed.

Staples at home: Four Roses Single Barrel, Woodford Reserve Double Oak, Wild Turkey Rare Breed... and I agree, Blanton's is okay.

Recent ones I like... Thirteenth Colony, Frey Ranch, JT Meleck reg and small batch..

Been awhile since I've been on this thread, but I still can't stop drinking Angel's Envy Rye. Everything else just disappoints me because it's not Angel's Envy Rye.

I like all of those except WRDO.

JT Melek has a 118 proof version now and it's awesome!

Just got a Buzzard's Roost for my birthday and it's really good.
