Sounds familiarSaleh may have been a bum as a HC but his defenses have always been good.
If fired in-season would be someone already on staff--your not going outside until after season-----It is clear that DA is not leading this team to anything but mediocrity - and this may not be even a .500 team. He's not a bad guy - he works hard and had some good ideas in the off season on bringing Kubiak to run the offense. The team has been decimated by injuries; but most of these have been on the offensive side. But that is not an excuse for the terrible defensive play the past four weeks. Yes, they held the Eagles down for most of the game but choked with the game on the line. There is a pattern of this with DA and defensive minded coaches who have multiple late game collapses and then an embarrassing second half like we saw today do not deserve a fourth season as HC.
But the question becomes - who would the Saints be able to hire to fix this mess? I like Kubiak and think he could possibly be kept on the next staff (especially if the new hire has connections to that offensive coaching tree), but don't see elevating him as a possibility. He does not seem to have the personality the position requires. I don't think the job will be very attractive to the top assistants in line for HC roles - as we're locked in with Carr, have major roster problems and a terrible salary cap situation that will take at least 2 more seasons to clear. up Add to this the fact that even if the Saints end up with a top 5 pick in the 2025 draft, there are no clear cut franchise QBs in this year's draft that could be the building block for a turnaround.
College coaches who have no prior NFL experience don't seem to work out very often., and I don't think hiring a retread NFL coach is the way to go (not seeing any Andy Reid types being let go this off season by an inpatient owner). Who are the under the radar NFL assistants you would like to see get the job next off season (assuming the Saints dump DA after this season)?
The more I think about it the better I like the idea of canning Allen in season (maybe after a humiliating loss to the Broncos) and promoting Rizzi to interim HC. Let's see what he can do with the rest of the season. If there is marked improvement then interview him and others for the HC job in the offseason. If we can snag a better candidate go that direction; if not go with Rizzi as HC, Kubiak as OC and find a young hungry DC on the staff of a team like the Ravens to come in a rework that side of the ball.No One is getting fired, we just su k!
Robert Saleh, easy. Dude sucks as a HC but as a DC he is money.who would be the DC
Ben Johnson has had chances to leave Detroit, but keeps electing to return. I'd rather have Dan Campbell....that's the "continuity coach" we should've kept in the building if "continuity" was the objective (I'm aware he left before that moment...just illustrating that "continuity" MAY have been the correct answer if it had been executed differently). If Campbell can lift the Lions out of a 50-year funk, I think he could've "continued" the standard of excellence we thought we had established in NO. If we can't lure Campbell back, due to contract issues, maybe we can trade for him? I hear that's a thing now. I'd rather trade for a winner HC than just about any player in the league. Trading for ONE player isn't likely to solve anything. Trading for the right HC is likely to solve everything. JMO...Ben Johnson is still doing a pretty good job in Detroit.
Gruden would be a mistake at this time or basically anytime. He's more of a celebrity coach now. (1) Can anyone name the coaches we interviewed prior to the Dennis Allen hiring? And (2) If Kubiak is all that 1. Why did he leave the 49ers and 2. Wasn't he let go by Denver also. All jokes aside…. I think what I thought a few seasons ago…. Bring in Gruden to be the HC and I don’t care what the league or social media thinks about it.
He’s the closest thing out there to Andy Reid. He can turn this around. I’d throw the blank check at him ASAP
Gruden as HC with KK as OC with some mixing of schemes and competent game management… and a roster reset of a youth movement might do the trick
Point!!!Robert Saleh, easy. Dude sucks as a HC but as a DC he is money.
Ben Johnson stated that he stayed because he’s waiting for the right opportunity. IMO he wants a team with a QB or a chance to draft a QB high that he thinks could win. I don’t believe Goff is better than Carr and I think they are very similar. Would Rattler be enough potential for him to consider? i hear ya los, and I've got nothing against Ben Johnson....but IF you are correct about him (waiting for "right" opportunity), I don't want him. He took himself out of consideration of the Washington HC job (if media reports are to be believed), which would've gotten him Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels, so I'm not sure if QB considerations are what he is looking at. He was in the running for jobs year before last also, and stayed put. I don't know enough about his reasons to speculate, but if what you speculate is correct, I don't want him. I want the next CSP....a guy who takes on a situation with confidence that he's going to make the right moves...and if the right pieces aren't in place, he's going to make that happen too. MAYBE Johnson is that guy....but if you're correct, he isn't.Ben Johnson stated that he stayed because he’s waiting for the right opportunity. But I think his offense has been great and he would be a Dan Campbell disciple and has witnessed the culture that he built there. Would Dan Campbell recommend the Saints organization since he has close ties? All the Saints can do is try to hire him. I just don’t want the Saints to try another year with DA, but they don’t give a crap what I want lol.
