Who is the greatest rock and roll band of all time? (3 Viewers)

Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, pretty sure it’s one of those

Anyone who answers anything but “The Beatles” is jsut trying to be contrarian.

For your proof, just watch any number of interviews on youtube with rock legends, or even minor rock stars , anyone you can think of, and almost to a man, or woman, they all say the same EXACT thing- ‘Well, i was ___ years old when i saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and it changed my life.. set the direction for my career from that night on’... then all those guys who got influenced by The Beatles, then influenced the NEXT generation.. so it all really starts with The Beatles.. BUT not only did they start everything, they also PERFECTED it as they went along.. that’s a tough combo to beat.

Bruh, who was even alive to see the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show?

Certainly nobody with good taste in music

I know many of you will disagree with me. But you can't be southern and not love skyward. Free bird. T is for Texas. Sweet home Alabama. Most of you don't know rock and roll. You think what you listen to today is rock but its not. Rock is an attitude not a sound. I could tell you about bands like the eagles . Styx. Reo. And so many others. You wouldn't agree. I grew up in a time that rock and roll was it. The 70s was a great time to grow up in. Now we have no real music. I hate this time. There is no music to listen to. In the 70s we had great musicians. Now what do we have. Skynryd. Styx. Reo. Eagles. And so many other great bands. What do we have today. Bad company. Nazareth. Bon jovi. Def leopard. How can you compare today's music to the old days.
Obviously the greatest rock band is Led Zeppelin. But I've spent the most time, and money scoring tickets for Fleetwood Mac, including front row seats. Recently, (pre covid) I'm just not that interested in paying ridiculous prices to see them without Lindsey Buckingham. Been to a lot of Stevie Nick's concerts, and sometimes I just want her to shut up and sing. I think that was some of Lindsey's beef with her during FM concerts.

Or not really old.

Music is subjective as has been stated earlier in this thread. I'm someone who doesn't care for the Beatles or Skynard outside of a couple of songs, but I won't be like if you don't like what I like, that makes you dumb.

I've had bands make many impacts in my life for various reasons, and that list is long. One of my favorites, HUM, released an album last year that I love. One of my other favorites, Mudvayne, is apparently reuniting and performing shows this year. Other bands have released material that I did not enjoy like I did their previous endeavors and it's obviously no fault towards them but it stems from my taste in music. That list includes Metallica, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Pantera, and KoRn (their debut album to me is iconic) for instance.

Tool and the Deftones are bands that I love front to back music-wise.

For the past several years, my favorite music has been from bands labeled as 'post-rock', most notably, Cloudkicker, Caspian, God Is An Astronaut, etc, and that was after I found Explosions In The Sky b/c of their involvement with Friday Night Lights when the movie came out. Just music, no vocals, I love it...

We all find what moves us, and there's no 'I win, you lose'. We like what we like, and that's part of what makes us tick. The song 'Stars' by HUM stirs something in me that I'm sure doesn't in others, and I don't care b/c I enjoy it and that's for me, if you appreciate it as well, that's great, but if not, no biggie, you do you...

Here's a short list of bands I've seen live as best as I can remember at this moment:
AC/DC
KoRn
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Pearl Jam
Metallica
Megadeth
Rage Against The Machine
Ministry
Ramones
Helmet
Pantera
Down
Morbid Angel
Sevendust
Tool
Deftones
Toadies
HUM
Caspian
Explosions In The Sky
Slipknot
Foo Fighters
U2
Joy Formidable
Alice in Chains
Ozzy
Sepultura
Smashing Pumpkins
Primus
GWAR
Motorhead
The Toadies
Jane's Addiction
Slayer
etc...

My point being is this, I went to see these bands live b/c that's who I wanted to see, to me they impacted my life in some form. Do I wish to crown a 'greatest ever band'? No. Each band brings what it does and fulfills a purpose in my life.

Oh, and this is what post-rock looks like if y'all are interested...

I mean, the title of the thread answers itself, doesn't it - or, really, isn't it just a statement of the FACT?

And if you think otherwise, well...

In all seriousness, though, there is no right answer. I could argue for The Who, King Crimson, YES, or the Allmans, but I could also just as easily argue for Weather Report, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, or Benny Goodman, or for that matter the Chicago Symphony Orchestra or the Philadelphia Symphonic under Leopold Stowkowski.

It's a very relative argument.
