Why are people down on rattler ?! (5 Viewers)

The last few minutes of a 33-3 game is the very definition of garbage time. If it isn’t then what is?
LOL , because it's not the score that makes it garbage time it how the D plays. In garbage time the D is giving up all the underneath stuff and not blitzing , so it's easy to get hollow yrds. Go look at how the Bronco's D was playing, they were playing to NOT give up a TD

He got to watch most of the game on the sideline to see how they were attacking us before coming in.
I’m not saying Haener doesn’t deserve a start, but playing in a tight game before the defense really shows their cards is different and more challenging. We need to see what he does in a full game before saying he is playing better than Rattler.
LOL you get a much better idea of what a D is doing from the tablet when you come off the field than standing on the sidelines. You are really stretching it now

I think the fact he didn't play like Brees reincarnated and automatically save the season killed what little hope people had remaining. Now it's back to reality.

At least he had decent weapons to throw the ball too right? And a decent run game?

Oh wait....

Some absolutely insane takes in this thread LOL.

And that is why I didn't want to see him him start! If you thought that this kid could grow into a quality starter, this is how you crush any opportunity for him to grow. No one is really learning anything from these last 2 games...Well, Rattler is learning how to fail, so there's that!

We learned that Rattler can't read and adjust to a blitz. If he doesn't get better at that, he's not going to last long in the NFL as a starting QB.

The Broncos blitzed Haener just as heavily as Rattler. Haener read it, adjusted for it and beat it. So we learned that Haener seems to be able to handle a blitz.

What we didn't learn is whether or not Haener or Rattler will end up having successful NFL careers as starting QB's. No one knows that, because it remains to be seen.

Some of that was because RBs, particularly Miller, failed to pick up the blitz. Beyond that, it's a lot to expect a rookie QB in his second start with only 4 days between game to prepare to really be ready to do what is necessary to beat the blitz.

As far as Haner, he was playing against a soft zone at the end of the game. He a nice job, but Rattler was doing a nice job against that coverage before he got hurt when a blitzer came clean from his blindside.

But, sure, both players have plenty of developing to do and either or neither of them may not ever make it.

I am really confused about what people write on this board, he is literally running for his life every play and still making good decisions.. I feel like I am in alternate universe here. Fans here were gushing after week two despite considerate concern about offensive line and now want to burn the house down because starting qb and most of our offensive line being hurt. To add insult to injury people are down on rattler who is playing better than most NFL starters would play with this porous line.
He wasn’t able to keep his starting job at Oklahoma, he is who he is, hopefully he develops to become a solid backup in the pros.

The tweet alone says all anyone needs to know about Rattler having basically no chance to be successful in that game and as you mentioned doesn’t even factor in he had arguably the worst receiving weapons to work with of any team in the NFL this week.

False. Broncos kept up the same blitz pressure on Haener as they were on Rattler on that same drive. Haener just read it pre-snap and made adjustments to beat it. Rattler didn't do that a single time against the blitz.

Re-watch the game, which I did, and look at Payton's reaction to the Haener to Wilson TD. Payton was pissed and chewing people out on the sideline. Payton had Denver doing everything they could to stop the Saints from moving the ball, let alone scoring a TD.

Payton being Payton, did not let the Bronco's defense back off at the end like most teams would do. People assume the Bronco's defense backed off, because it's what most teams do and Haener made it look so easy to beat their blitz pacages, the very same blitz packages that beat Rattler all night.

It's only natural and predictiable that those who've already decided and declared that Rattler is the Saints future QB are not going to let themselves see what truly happened at the end of the game, because it would require them to admit that at least in one area of being an NFL QB, Haener seems to be clearly better than Rattler at the moment.

People say this like it was some “normal” situation in Oklahoma. He lost his job to Caleb Williams. Arguably the most hyped up QB prospect of the past 20 years.

And who did he lose his job to at Oklahoma? Oh yeah, the #1 pick in the draft this year.

Losing his job to Caleb Williams at Oklahoma has nothing to do with whether he develops or not and frankly, Lincoln Riley, was just looking for an excuse to start Williams. Maybe he never becomes more than a backup QB, but he has the ability to be much more.

I didn't say they weren't blitzing Haner. I said they were playing soft zone. You can blitz and play soft zone. And of course Payton was mad. No coach ever wants to give up a TD. I don't see what point you are trying to make with that.

And I have not already decided that Rattler is the future at QB. Stop making up crap. I think he's a good prospect so I want to see him play to see IF he is the future or IF we need to find a young QB in the draft.

And I already said that Haener did a good job and that I would expect him to be better at reading defenses and changing protections since he's been in the NFL for an entire year longer than Rattler and had a full offseason where he worked with Gruden. But that doesn't mean that Rattler won't be as good or better at it when he has the same amount of time in the NFL as Haener.

But don't let them stop you from making up sheet and building straw men to knock down.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. They were not playing soft zone
1st play single high man, rushed 4 JH threw a good pass that hit Tipton in the hand sand he dropped
2nd single high man on the outside they blitzed 6, same play to Tipton this time he caught it
3rd 2 high zone they rushed 4 JH tried t dump it to Miller he dropped it
4th Cover 0 they blitzed 8, that's the play where JH saw the blitz and audibled and hit Wilson
5th single high zone they rushed 6 JH TD to Wilson
No soft zone , lot's of blitzing even 1 cover 0

LOL Rattler was more hyped than Williams, SR was the #1 recruit in the country
