Jameis Winston on his NFL future: 'I'm not a free agent just yet, I have one more year'

Jameis Winston listed as a Saints salary cap cuts candidate
Jameis Winston was listed as a salary cap cuts candidate at Pro Football Focus. He didn't get a fair shake with the Saints, but a split feels inevitable:
While the yahoo article certainly seems the most likely scenario, I find it surprising that Jameis is saying "Not so fast, I've still got a year on my contract." This makes it sound like, despite the snub he received from Dennis Allen last year (and the rumours that Dalton outperformed him in camp), Jameis wants to stay in New Orleans for a shot at winning back the starting QB job.
As crazy as it might sound, is it just possible the coaching staff and front office will decide to pass on Carr or any of the other semi-questionable free agent names available and stand pat to let Winston have another shot (I would assume such a scenario means they have a rookie QB targeted in the draft)?
I'm not quite sure what to make of Jameis' statement. Just seems surprising to me that after what happened last season, he wouldn't be asking to be let go for a shot elsewhere.
