FA Will the Saints Bring in a Veteran FA CB Before Training Camp? (1 Viewer)

Because I didn't feel like finding the Kwon thread šŸ’ŖšŸ¾ LEGENDARY

Kwon was definitely better than Anzaloneā€¦ especially vs the passā€¦ but folks have this ā€œmemoryā€ of Kwon being this total stude, and that simply wasnā€™t the case! He was their best overall option, YESā€¦ but he was far from a ā€œstudā€. He blew numerous run fits, and his tackling has always been questionable.
He is just about the #1 reason the Saints lost to Philly last seasonā€¦ no matter how much folks want to blame Taysom.

Saints have no money to bring in a vet CB. We have Lattimore, Jenkins, Williams ,CGJ but people are acting like we have no talent in the secondary when we just have an opening at CB opposite Lattimore.
Oh, no big deal, right? SMH. Like getting a Big A** Beer on Bourbon only to discover a 1/2 inch hole in the bottom 30 seconds later. Yeah, no biggie. Drink fast!

Too many ā€œifs and butsā€ with this current Saints team, and not enough ā€œcandy and nutsā€.

If P-Rob can find the fountain of youth and stay healthy all season, the #2 CB spot could be OKā€¦ If Adebo isnā€™t hindered by a year off and plays fast and loose, the Saints could be OKā€¦ If Keith Washington has been working his tail off and is a secret weapon, the Saints could be alright at CBā€¦

Butā€¦ the likelihood of any of those things happening is slim.

I've heard a couple Saints reporters (Larry Holder & Mike Detillier) name the Saints as a potential landing spot for Stephon Gilmore.
Totally understand that its just some wish and history since the Saints have done more than a few Camp trades with New England. However, outside of the draft capital it could cost it appears that Gilmore wants to be paid in the top of the CB market. Doing a trade would likely mean he gets a new big dollar contact.
Lots of speculation but what do Saints fans think about Gilmore generally and would he be worth the investment if it meant that this could impact resigning Lattimore? You could almost speculate that signing someone like Gilmore would mean that potentially this is the end of Lattimore in B&G who will also command top of the CB market next season.
I think we really need a top flight CB to man opposite Lattimore this season. Someone who might be able to be a number one since Lattimore is likely going to miss some undetermined period of time do to the pending violation of the personal conduct policy.
Make it happen or roll with a street vet and hope for the best?

There's two opposite thoughts that I've heard on this subject, and both make sense to me in their own way.

1. If Saints bring in a CB, it'll be during pre-season after they see what the guys we have can do. The thought is that they'll want to give Adebo
every chance to show he can be our guy. That includes lots and lots of reps with the 1's. Then even if they do bring in a corner, it will likely be a
cheaper vet that can plug the hole while giving Adebo more time in hopes that he eventually wins the job and the vet corner becomes a depth piece.

2. No way the Saints go in to the 2021 season with only the guys on the roster. We should go for Richard Sherman or try to trade for a proven solid
veteran. Any vet brought in will likely be on a 1 year deal, whereas Adebo gets a redshirt season (barring injury in front of him on the depth chart),
This also covers us if the NFL suspends Lattimore.

Both have merit. The second option makes sense for the early part of the season. I mean, Lattimore is a Saint. So I start out expecting him to get the
harshest punishment the League can come up with. That would put P-Rob on one side and either a completely unknown Adebo or Crawley on the other.
And we'd be literally one minor injury away from Crawley/Adebo... two minor injuries or one rookie not performing from PJ/Crawley. So I'm leaning towards
the 2nd thought. Especially now that we have ~$11M in cap room. It makes little sense going into the season with the depth we have at corner, whether or not
Adebo pans out or Lattimore gets sat down for multiple games.

Man, I forgot about Washington! I remember watchin his college vids. Dude is athletic, n fast ( 4.38 forty). And he can ball!

Problem is, at 6ā€™, heā€™s only 175 lbs. The good news is that the Saints brought him back. So they must like what they see in him. He also has a frame that can carry an extra 10-15. So they probably had him workin on adding some weight/muscle mass, without losing his speed n agility, during the offseason. If he does. I think he can help us.

I wish him well! šŸ‘šŸ½
